Understood. It's just that the sound of that bowl cracking is firmly stuck in my mind and it's made made me a bit gun-shy and careful.
It would me as well - I still remember the sound of my favorite meer shattering on the concrete. I have a hard time imagining a hair dryer creating enough thermal shock to crack a piece of briar - a heat gun maybe...

georged opined that the briar was probably already stressed there and that the warmth from the blow-dryer was just enough to release it. He also recommended ignoring the crack and just enjoying the pipe as normal. I've followed that advice. and do you know what? He was exactly right! The pipe STILL smokes well, crack notwithstanding. :)

Boy, you got this one right. I remember telling a friend of mine that I love buying old Estate pipes. They asked me to define what that meant. After I did, there was silence. He then asked do you like using other peoples old toothbrushes, too?

I told him I could tell that I was "casting my pearls before swine...."
+++^^. When I pick up ISO at the drugstore I just tell them it’s for electronics or antiques. I may have mentioned something about electric trains, or metal chess pieces.
