Ah but the vulcanite is so nice and soft on the teeth and a nice tactile sensation. Less rigid and cold like other materials...but yeah it can definitely be a pain in the ass, haha. I do love it when after a goodly amount of time spent soaking, sanding, buffing, and polishing these old stems they shine and reflect. Just so good looking then and the knowledge that it's because of you that it does shine again. Quite the reward.

So in your experience do they always have a little bit of a rubber scent to them?

Come to think of it I suppose there is a slight rubber smell to it. I'd never really noticed before. But heck as long as it doesn't subtract from your enjoyment it should be good.

Well photobucket.com is an old standard and does a pretty decent job. Imageshack.us has also been handy for when you don't want to make an account for anything. Copy the line that either one gives you and paste it in to the box for your post here and post it up.

There's also a sticky on the main page of the forum on posting images that should make it more clear if you need it.

Modernchicago:

activated charcoal and a bake in the oven @180 degrees (without stem / metal)
I personally wouldn't do that to meerschaum. I can imagine that it would melt all the wax out and thus destroy the coloring...but then again I may just be getting paranoid about it and be completely wrong.
