I wish I just smoked the entire bowl as relighting the next day usually compromised flavor. but I'd smoke it up anyway out of meanness:).
Such may indicate the tobacco left in the heel is damp. I get no bad flavors from overnighted half bowls.

Here
I find there are some blends that get better as you approach the bottom of the bowl, likely the stoving effect.
I discovered by accident that an interruption while smoking these blends often results in achieving the better "bottom" flavor sooner.
I only smoke in the evenings and usually at home, so interruptions are not frequent.

I use the DGT every so often, in most cases not intentinally. For example, last night I smoked a bowl of VaLat, and loaded the pipe for a second. Meanwhile I had some un announced guests, so 80% of the bowl remained un smoked. I am probably going to finish it today, give that pipe a cleaning, and hang it in the rack for the next 3-4 days.

What happens is that moisture released from burnt tobacco drops down into the unsmoked tobacco and bottom of the bowl. Use a cleaner after the pipe goes out to reduce the bad taste.
