The original post poses a question about reducing heat and moisture. The ember in a pipe is a delicate matter and you want to keep the heat even. You don't want to puff like a train and get it too hot, so stop doing that, but don't go to cooling down a good ember. Moisture I'd control by drying the tobacco sufficiently. The only time I blow into the airway is when I'm cleaning a pipe, once I've scooped and wiped out the bowl, to clear loose dottle (used tobacco) or ash, into an ash try or waste basket (if the pipe is totally out).

Hello all.
Does breathing out through the pipe release any of the heat and moisture that is in the chamber?
What are your thoughts on this?

Are there any techniques to achieve this (aside from drying out the tobacco more thoroughly beforehand... I mean mid-smoke)?
Thanks.
When I hear gurgles, I blow back in gently and no more gurgles. I dont know the mechanics but I like that it works.

breath smoke most of the time. exhale through the pipe only to check it's still burning. some time don't do that at all. occasionally puff on it for fun. bit of cloud is fun to see.
