Gave this some thought tonight while enjoying a double Johnnie Walker Black.
Forgive me.

The mention of the words “Johnny Walker” provokes a trigger response in fans of Texas Swing:

The Letter That Johnny Walker Read

Which after that standard is sung almost surely leads to more pitiful drunken Texas Swingers

Amazing Grace Used to be her Favorite Song

Some very few country songs celebrate moonshine, or more accurately moonshiners.

Ballad of Thunder Road

(By legend based on a true story)

Virtually all twang songs, know no social drinkers.

Just sots and teetotalers.:)

On January 1, 2025, at around 3:15 a.m. CST(UTC–6), Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old American man, drove a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States, then exited the truck and engaged in a shootout with police before being fatally shot. Fourteen victims were killed, plus the perpetrator, and at least fifty-seven others were injured, including two police officers who were shot. The attack occurred during New Year celebrations in the city, which was scheduled to host the 2025 Sugar Bowl later that day.

abbar wore body armor during the attack.[12]Police officers recovered a .308 AR-10 rifle and Glock handgun.[a] The white Ford F-150 Lightning light-duty truck used in the attack had been rented using Turo, and had been observed in Humble, Texas, on the morning before the attack. Later that day, the truck was observed in Baytown, Texas, heading east on Interstate 10 toward New Orleans.[17] The truck was registered to a Houston man.[1][6]There was an Islamic State (ISIS) flag in the vehicle,[18][19] and on 9 January 2025 newspaper Al-Naba claimed responsibility for the attack.[20]

The gubbermint suicidal homicidal malcontent control officers and regulators seem to be asleep at the switch.

What if we all had the right to all the AR-10s and Glocks we wanted if we passed the same background check as for a Thompson sub machine gun using AI search engines that could flag out most of the crazies?

And once we had em’, we were strictly liable if they were misused by anybody.

Plus the police could remotely shut off all vehicles around parade and festival venues?

I’ll admit it’s a slippery slope.

But I’m afraid my mother would be too afraid today to take a 19 year old kid on a horse drawn daylight tour of of all the bars and drag clubs on Bourbon Street, you know?

Each joint had a two drink minimum and they all let the hansom cab driver drink for free.

Do they still do that, today?
I couldn't tell you.
My last duty station was in downtown New Orleans about a 8 block walk from French Quarter and Bourbon Street. I think I've only been in that part of New Orleans about three or four times since 1993. As I've gotten older, I developed an aversion to being in places so crowded with drunks you didn't have space to step around their vomit on the street.

A spike in 2020 shows people went a little stir crazy during Covid, then there was the “sober curious” backlash. But one recent article I saw said something about people getting back into alcohol again. So, give it five years. The bigger takeaway perhaps is that the trend of around 35-40% teetotalers over the last 90 years remains constant with ebbs and flows as would happen.

People are probably switching to weed, as it becomes legal in an increasing number of states.

I happen to know the Missouri head poo bah of NORMAL, a brilliant lawyer I had the privilege of practicing with for many years.

About thirty years or so ago another good lawyer we knew, had a sick wife and he told me that his wife actually found relief, in smoking marijuana.

This other lawyer, named Fred, was a strait laced, well dressed, successful and respected member of the Missouri Bar.

So I went to the lawyer in charge of NORMAL and asked him, to tell me, lawyer to lawyer and no bull shit, was there seriously any real medical benefits to smoking marijuana?

He said plenty!

If Fred’s wife wanted whiskey he could buy it at the liquor store.

When all you straight laced Republican lawyers think it’s medicine Fred will be able to not buy it from dope peddlers.:)

Maybe younger people are buying legal, pure, and medical grade weed, instead of booze.

But I doubt that’s most of the decline.

I’d say it’s because of good times.

In good times, a man wants something warm to sleep with, you know?

He was 30, but a few days ago a young man, in the prime of life, his whole future ahead of him, stole five of his father’s guns and fired 500 shots and broke 200 windows in the buildings in Atlanta Georgia where one of only two places in the world live smallpox viruses are kept to make vaccines.

He murdered a policeman and he’s dead too, and he shot himself.

There was a helluva disturbance to everyday life in Atlanta that day, you know?

He didn’t make anybody’s definition of a mass shooting.

—-

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Georgia Bureau of Investigations Director Chris Hosey said 500 shell casings were recovered from the scene, while its believed 200 rounds hit six buildings in the CDC complex. Five firearms were also recovered, he said.
The gunman had also "verbalised thoughts of suicide" before the shooting, Hosey said, adding that investigators had uncovered written evidence of his discontent with Covid-19 vaccines. He reportedly blamed the vaccine for making him depressed and suicidal.

DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose was fatally shot when he responded to reports of an active shooter at the CDC precinct shortly before 17:00 local time on Friday. Rose, a former Marine who had served in Afghanistan, died in hospital after he was wounded

Those in charge of regulation of firearms (not prohibition of firearms—taxation and regulation) are not doing so well.

There have been suicidal homicidal malcontents throughout history in every era in every culture and every nation.

They just never have been so well armed.

The regulators are scared witless they’ll lose their gubbermint jobs at the taxpayer’s dime if they regulate firearms.

But in due time, these matters sort themselves out.

I think you misunderstood me. Sorry about that. ‘Bodycount’ is the word young people use these days to count sex partners.

So if you said her bodycount is above 100, she has had sex with over 100 people.

It is very fitting, i’d say

People like me who keep a bottle of fine bourbon and some good heavy beer (never light beer) to drink on rare occasions with my friends who do have a taste for the barleycorn or will drink beer right out of the can .
“People like me who keep a bottle of fine bourbon and some good heavy beer (never light beer)” - Right On, Brother!

“or will drink beer right out of the can” - Ah, well, no, fine. Prefer a glass.
