This pipe was in a non-smoking broken condition when I received it as a gracious gift from Condor1 and Weezel.
The stinger/tenon which I initially thought was metal, wasn't. I was going to re-use it in the rebuild but it crumbled to dust after I gently sanded it and was going to reinsert it into the shank. It went, Pooferay! Anyway we settled for a regular Delrin tenon and a new acrylic stem. I'm not sure, but I think the original stem was Bakelite. It cracked into pieces even with the gentlest probing. I cleaned out the chamber which, was heavily caked, but now she is good to go.
Here, she is on her maiden re-acquaintance with Gawith Hoggarth's 8 year old, Black Irish twist XXX

That turned nice. For some reason I thought the tenon was missing but it does not surprise me that it went 'poof' as they were made from bone. The stem was amber and was totally shot. The banding on the shank is masterful. If you do banding do let me know as I have a drawer full of Meer casualties that need silver bands. Enjoy you pipe and feed it some of the Black XXX

Very nice! I've been after an old school meer cutty (or two!) that looks like this for some time, but DANG are they hard to find! Even new makers don't seem to make them in a similar shape very often anymore. May have to end up commissioning one some day.
