Folks - Having come back to pipes from an absence of about forty years (oh my!), I'm reacquainting myself with the landscape of available tobacco blends. Some of my favorite British blends, MM965, EMP and Nightcap, are still available, but my favorite lighter-bodied blend, Stokkebye's Danish Deluxe, is nowhere in sight.
What I'd like your help with is finding a couple of lighter blends for when MM965 just won't do, or when I want to smoke indoors. A couple I've found that I consider on the light side are Anniversary Kake (a VaPer) and Frenchy's Sunzbitches (mostly Burley). I'd like your recommendations for more. Here are a couple of my category preferences:

- cut tobacco over flakes, rolls or plugs

- non- or mildly aromatic over heavily cased

- available in bulk over tins
I respect the terrific experience on this board and look forward to your ideas. Thanks in advance!

I think GL Pease Westminster and Maltese Falcon are somewhat lighter latakia mixes. McClleland Frog Morton's Cellar is also a very nice light Latakia blend.
I think you've found a great one in H&H Anniversary Kake. I might also suggest GL Pease Haddo's Delight on similar lines.

Cortez - Thanks for the opportunity to elaborate. My preference is for a non-Latakia blend, as you say, but in addition, something lighter in body and flavor. A pleasant room note would also be a plus, which is why Latakia blends may not do it for me.
One of my faves in the early 70s was Iwan Reese's Three Star Orange, a Cavendish Reese advertises as "exceedingly bland." Having tried it again recently, I find it lacking in nuance, but its mild flavor, light body and pleasant room note otherwise work for me.
Thanks for the great recommendations thus far, everyone.

Are you sure it's just not PS. Danish tobacco? Can't find anything for Danish Delight on tobaccoreviews.com http://www.4noggins.com/peter-stokkebye-danish-pipe-tobacco.aspx There's also nougant and optimum by PS you should try that sounds like what you're looking for.

You might like Altadis Fox and Hound; McClellends Virginia Cake 5100; Nat Sherman's 536 available in bulk directly from the store in Manhattan at 1-800-mycigar or in tins at smokingpipes.com; Cornell & Diehl's Stratfordshire; and if you are willing to go to a pouch/tub available non-aromatic blend, P&C's Home and Hearth, Midtown series, Chestnut, an incredible tub blend with six different tobaccos but a mild smooth smoke-abiity -- try the pouch and you'll buy the tub. It's impossible to pick blends for others, but I'd be amazed if you tried each of these, or a few of them, you won't find something you like.

He might be talking PS Swiss Delight no longer made . I still have a few pounds in Mason jars , It was Coco Puffs and Vanilla light and tasty . I have never found a blend like it and reserve it now for a once in a while treat . The Nougat is close but it is missing the CoCo in full flavor . It was PS41

I would throw Bald Headed Teacher from 4noggins as a must-try lighter blend on the list. It's one of my all time favorites :)

Y'all - I finally found an image - but still no review or other discussion - of Stokkebye's Danish Deluxe. I remember buying it when I lived in Chicago in the mid-70s, probably at Iwan Reese, which is where I bought most of my tobacco. I remember the blend as Virginia-based, with a ribbon cut - possibly a little flavoring, but not much. It was mild but complex, like nice round Viognier.

I also found Newminster 80 (Norway), 81 (Denmark), and 84 (Oriental) light in body and flavor; as well as Orion's Arrow (bold, complex profile, but light overall).

It has a bit of Latakia, but Wilke Pipemaker's Choice is a very light VA and golden Cavendish blend with a bit of Latakia. It's basically a light English with a nice vanilla room note. Very light.

Sutliff's Westminster (not to be confused with GL Pease Westminster, also good but more expensive). The Sutliff blend comes in a cardboard "tin," but is moderately priced, and a good mild English blend.
