Recommendation Request - Creamy, Sweet, Smooth Latakia Blends - EU Available

Hi all,

I'm still a new smoker so I haven't tried a huge range of blends but I do heavily favour latakia based mixtures.

Hoping I can get recommendations for latakia based blends with a creamy, smooth mouth feel and a slight sweet taste. I really like a full smoke and tend to avoid anything that is wispy, airy or "ethereal" in feel. Although I dislike the aromatics that i've tried so far, I'm open to "crossover" blends. Hard mode - I'm in the EU so C&D/GLP/Drucquer/Boswell etc won't be available for me.

I'm also open to getting some straight latakia and blending my own if anyone has suggestions for something to mix it with.

I know these are all subjective descriptors but curious if anyone has a blend they think fits this.

Also, I'm planning on picking up HU Port Latakia and Sillem's Black on my next order as potential candidate for sweet latakia's. Could be too sweet but it's worth a try.

Thanks, I hadn't considered Mac Baren so i'll give that one a look. I do have some Plumcake i'm working through but find it much too airy and light on flavour.

I like Samuel Gawith Balkan flake and Perfection. In the Peterson line I have not smoked the recent versions but the former Dunhill My Mixture 965 was very creamy. I would also look at Rattray’s Latakia blends. Red Rapparee, 3 Noggins, Accountants, etc. many of the blends have unsweetened cavendish which helps with that creamy mouthfeel.

I wanted to like it, I really did. I'm not going to give up on it though, tastes can change so I'll continue sampling my jar periodically.

Thanks for these suggestions. I've also eyed Perfection but sadly SG is really expensive here, twice the cost of Rattrays, for example.
Regarding 965, I just smoked some today from my jar. It still has some kind of strange note in it that i'm not the biggest fan of. The Rattray's are on my list, especially Red Rapparee. Presbyterian is another blend i've seen described as creamy.

Its a smidge less intense than glp quiet nights but half the price in the eu
Hu Zulu is interesting too
Hh lat flake is good and different than the other two

All of those have significant lat but are very different from one another and none are without a backbone

Regarding 965, I just smoked some today from my jar. It still has some kind of strange note in it that i'm not the biggest fan of.

It may require some more time in the jar.

The Rattray's are on my list, especially Red Rapparee

I haven’t smoke much Rattray English recently but Red Raparree was a recent one for me. Fantastic.

Presbyterian is another blend i've seen described as creamy

I don’t remember it to be particularly creamy but it’s another favorite.

I haven’t smoke much HU but the blends I’ve tried are all fantastic. I like their blending style and the character of their blends very much.

I am sitting here smoking a bowl of Peterson old Dublin. I find creamy and sweet. Like Lapsang tea with milk. Almost a little hazelnut. The tin was gifted, has been in my car for a while. I didn’t love it at first. But honestly would buy a lot more now. This pipe has been perfect.

I was very impressed.

The Brebbia stuff looks interesting but I haven't seen it available over here.

GWs Bob's Chocolate Flake is 8% latakia and an absolute dream.

One I've often liked the look of. I fear to try it and fall in love though as it's sadly twice the price of most other blends in the EU.

I know you're not partial to aromatics, but Bob's Chocolate flake is very well done. I find the flavoring to be natural, not unlike the very chocolate notes a nice burley can elicit.

Some hu makhuwa and a pinch of lat will get one close enough.

Glp, GH, Sg and c&d are about 25 bucks a tin
No bulk in the EU

It’s about the same locally in NY plus another 8% sales tax. Fortunately we can still make internet sales at the moment. Though we often get hit with with sales tax it’s waaaaaay cheaper.
