Life By Keith Richards, a good view of the Rolling Stones history, and his dad smoked a pipe.

Fiction: I read anything science fiction or fantasy. I find that the Thomas Covenant series by Stephen Donaldson is highly underrated. Definitely recommended.

Non-fiction: history or theology. In the latter category, "Simply Jesus" by N.T. Wright is currently open in iBooks ;-) Very good read.

Kon-Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl and Endurance - Shackleton's Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing. Two great adventure stories that really happened.

Love the foundation series... Just re-read it.
Mike: you need a Peterson Shackleton to go with that book. Any excuse to satisfy PAD :puffpipe:

The camera never blinks by Dan Rather , The great shark hunt by Hunter S Thompson the Gonzo man , Poland by James Michener . Michener tomes are always good solid research wraped around a novel . And a Stanger in a strange land by Robert A. Heinlein .

Some great books here, I have read some of them. How about also including a recommendation for a Kindle (or other e reader)free book. I try to only read the really cheap or free ones and the good ones can be hard to find.
One of my recommendations would be: The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin (makes you feel very average though)

I recommend any of the books containing collections of short stories by H.P.Lovecraft. Also, I suggest "Engine Summer" by John Crowley as well as any of his other novels and collections of short stories as well.
