You shouldn't be afraid of C&D products. It's a myth (at best) that they somehow prefer burley to VAs in any sense. They got that reputation, however, because they almost single-handedly rehabilitated burley's reputation among many smokers by putting out some spectacular burley mixtures, but that hardly means they specialize in it! In fact, I'd put some of the VA flakes up against any of the British companies without hesitation.

Yale Mixture, Rajah's Court, and Star of the East are just three of their English offerings without burley. If you're willing to try a little burley mixed in for body, then there are a couple of dozen possibilities. I'd recommend Old Hollywood and Morley's Best to start, or maybe even Pirate Kake if you REALLY like latakia.

C&D also makes GL Pease blends and several other product lines, so you should find no shortage of things to smoke if you take a close look at their website.

I would recommend Consolation from the Serenity series. It'a wonderful American take on English blends. Winton also has a good point about their samplers. It allows you to get stuff that will fit your needs for little out-of-pocket to start.

Thanks, everyone! I'm ordering London Squire, Pirate Kake, and Star of the East. We'll see what I think.
And while I appreciate the mention of Hermit and GLPease blends, I'm well-versed in those; I was looking for C&D leads only. (Not sure where the Dunhill recommendation came from, though. . .:) )
