Just received my Nording Woodcock but the tamper won't be used much. Doesn't even fit in the bowl lol. Oh well it's still a beauty. I found it in a B&M Thursday and couldn't resist. Had it shipped to me with some tobacco. I'll test it out this afternoon, with a different tamper.
Is the other (briar) side the side I'm supposed to use? Any of you out there with the same pipe have a tamper that fits metal end first? The way the briar is shaped it seems the 12ga end should be the to use.
The tamper is for your really broad chamber pipes, if any. The pipe is a beauty, and the stem is nicely understated with its stripes. If it is like most Nordings, it will smoke well and be a work horse.
If it fits, I would say yes. It doesn't make any sense to have a pipe & tamper set if the tamper doesn't fit. I personally would want to use the tamper that came with the pipe.
I really like the stem. Similar to the Chacom Maya.
I looked at the Chacom Maya pipes and like those as well. But the Nording has an almost iridescent swirl in the black sections of the stem which is very striking and unique. Pictures don't do it justice although I will try to post a picture showing it later when I have a minute.
A pipe tamper doesn't "fit" the way an espresso tamper does. In fact, I wouldn't use a tamper that covered over half the bowl. The tamper you received is a bit ridiculous for all but the largest of chambers.
