Is this because the cake has sat there and hardened over time?

Cake hardness varies according to the tobacco smoked.

The goopiest aromatics leave something that's almost like cake frosting, while unflavored blends leave concrete.

The latter, when combined with a smoker who was either lazy or believed cake added flavor, can be insane. Chambers that could hold a cigarette and were kept open with a phillips screwdriver. (not joking)
