Sounds like a nic punch to me.I would try a lower nicotine tobacco in the same pipe and see what happens.

With your elaboration on the subject, it definitely just sounds like nicotine. All the others agree because it has happened at one time or another to them.
It is part of the early pipe smoking experience; you have to gauge your tolerance and respect it thereafter or constantly challenge it by smoking progressively stronger blends if you so desire.
It sounds like you are fine and that your pipe is the one in danger. You should probably slow down and be more conscious of your smoking or you will have further dizzy spells and pipe damage in the future.
Try another tobacco at a different pace and tell us how it goes...
All the best!

I had to learn which tobacco blends were heavy in nicotine and avoid them, I hated that woozy feeling (and nauseous!) Anything from Samuel Gawith puts me over the edge. I can only tolerate mild English blends. Straight Virginia's are also too much. Oddly, I Burley blends have no effect on me.

It's funny that you should say that since I find I am most sensitive to burley. No doubt there are others, though...

I was referring to Tobaccoreviews.com which compiles the average rating for each tobacco from its own database of reviews. Search for the blend in question and "Strength" should be at the top of the page with a few other attributes.
(Sorry if it is bad form to suggest this site but that's what I use)

Here's a pretty extensive listings of the various blends, broken down into types. Check out #13, "Light/Medium Latakia blends:

Many of the GL Pease English blends are in the light/medium category. I like Meridian and Chelsea Morning.
