I have been on this site since May 2012. I have been put in time out a couple or a few times and every time it was my fault for saying something really stupid and totally against the rules of the site. I am just grateful that I was allowed too come back as this is my favorite web site and and the moderators don't put people in time out all willy nilly. You really have to say something really stupid for a moderator to take the time to look at your post.
I am on another pipe site that pauses my posts so a mod can look at it before it gets posted. I think it is a really good system because when I am on certain meds, I don't know what can come out of my mouth.
I try not to post at all when I am on this site when I take those meds. I am always afraid I will post something really stupid and gets me in trouble which I hate doing. I have a lot of respect for Kevin and the mods and the thankless job they have moderating this site.

AFAIK, when you can't see a "Start PM" option in a member's pop-up profile, that person is banned. Apparently, some banned guys can be PM'ed if and only if you had started a conversation with them prior to the ban—just reply to that convo and you might get a reply from them, but they can't post on the open forum. I dunno if this is by design of if it's a hole in Xenforo that needs to be plugged.

You are not to blame and are likely unaware, but this topic has been hashed out before, several times.
Besides the things you might expect such as politics and religion, there are a few topics that are uniquely polarizing here on the boards. The Frank Method, Water Flushing Pipes, and, as you’ve discovered, Brobs.
So, all seriousness and no fun? Not on this site! We take our fun where we find it. Decorum is not something many of use seek. Pomposity is quickly skewered. Everyone is or has or will be targeted. I used to put Brobs' panties in a bunch as a matter of course.
Fun is fine. I just didn't understand why the question I asked couldn't be answered quickly and closed. I will contact the mods directly in the future as you mentioned.
So Dec 5th the forums will become more lively again, just in time for Christmas!
