I'm with tanless1. If I ever quit smoking, the match companies would feel it worse than the tobacconists.

I get positively giddy when a bowl lasts an hour, regardless of the number of relights. All kidding aside,

I have worked at nursing a bowl on just two matches; and with C&D's Night Train, I have managed

to eke out as much as 33 minutes. But in all honesty, I don't think I enjoyed it as much because I was

focussed on the burn, and not the taste.

I admire accomplished slow smokers -- they're a special breed of cat. But IMO just a fringe of the entire

hobby/pastime. (Read jealous! LOL)

I used to worry about re-lighting but now I don't care. If it goes out then so be it. Although, when I still cared, frequent tamping can keep a pipe going without any need for relights.
Awesome result, though.

Excellent job Raymond. I am always amazed at the amount of time some of these gents can smoke a small amount of tobacco. More power to them.

You're right Kevin. Raymond's writing style is both informative and absorbing.

I felt his sense of fascination with the novel experiences this trip offered.

What I should have posted in the article's comments section is that Raymond may

have started a new thing at the contest. That is, wearing clothing that is representative

of one's ethnic heritage and traitional dress -- which, in Europe, could make it

a really festive and colorful event.

Awesome! My record is around 45 minutes...smoking 1888 Late Night. However, that was pure luck, and I haven't been able to repeat it.

But man, almost 2 hours! Such skill, you have to respect that.
