While I totally respect that most people aren't going to be able to buy $1500 pipes, I have never understood people who brag about how cheap they are.
Like I tell them, "nice truck," and they're all... "got it for $150."
I mean, that's the exact same thing as me bragging about how much I spent. Someone likes a pipe of mine, I just say, "thank you." You can ask me how much it was, but whether I respond to that is determined by how much I think it is within your business to know.

Maybe that "I got it for cheap" is an evocation of the tradition of the Yankee trader, the sharp trader whose acumen allows him or her to go from rags to riches based on a savvy business sense. It's certainly some form of bragging.
