I had a good time at the pipe show and my wife would say I spent to much money. :D I enjoyed the shopping and drooling over all the nice pipes but the best part was enjoying a pipe on the patio and talking with some interesting people.
I met Scott from Aristocob and his son "boy" and some other fella who was related to them who went by the nickname "waffle". After we sat there smoking for a bit, Scott went to his car, got some nice cobs and gave one to everyone sitting at the table. Thank you much Scott!
I also met a fella whose job title was listed as "aromatic fart" on his business card. I didn't know that was actually a job? I think I'm well qualified for it if anyone is hiring. So the "fart" whose real name was Basil bought some modified cobs that he had made and was showing them to Scott. The cobs were really nice done. So after a moment he went to his car and bought back some leather pipe stands that his wife had made and then proceeded to give one of those to everyone at the table.
I am amazed at the generosity of pipe smokers and I'll have to remember to make some tampers or something else for the next pipe event I attend just to repay their generosity to the pipe community.
I'm also amazed at how enjoying a pipe can bring generations together. The was a young man who was 22 at our table, I'm 44, I'd guess Scott was my age + or - 5 years, his son and waffle I'd guess were in their mid to late 20's and the aromatic fart, I'd guess to be the most experienced of our group. So this diverse group managed to sit around a table and enjoy some smoke and friendly conversation for a good hour. What other hobby would do this?
I'm already looking forward to going next year.
