6 time Grammy winning saxophonist dies at 78 after a long battle with prostate cancer.

His career spanned almost 60 years and it would be easier to list the big names he didn’t play with.

Loved his style. A high school friend played "reeds" in his band for years. John introduced me to the subtleties of the man's music. RIP.

There was a video of "Bang Bang" that looked like a Creole parry during Festivale. A happy, upbeat song that just made me smile every time I heard it. R.I.P.

Slightly off topic but about two weeks ago I watched a TV programme that had a section about how saxophones are made.

Absolutely fascinating to watch how these very complicated instruments are made and put together from a mass of components all carefully fettled by expert builders.

Always been a fan of the sax in many styles of music. Nik Turner in particular is one of my favourite players, very versatile.

Somehow I missed the sad news of his passing; in fact, I wasn't even aware that he was ill, I liked Mr. Sanborn's music, particularly his Chicago Song. Also Rikke.
