I had guessed 1 and 5—the overly narrow shank on 1, the stummel shape and bowl coating of 5, and the sheen of the finish on both looked very familiar—I’ve been checking HS Studio pipes quite frequently/regularly lately (and purchased a couple, too).
How do they smoke compared zo a normal basket pipe?

I haven’t tried the two recent ones (been on a smoking hiatus for almost three months), but I have a Roadtown from several years ago, which is a perfectly fine pipe. From a visual and engineering standpoint, I think the quality and craft has generally improved on HS Studio pipes; they are paying attention to some details (i.e., chamfering their tenons). That said, from some pictures I’ve seen, the inside of the mortise can sometimes look a bit crude and unfinished. But, as long as there are no gross errors in construction, any pipe, whether a basket or artisan should provide a decent smoke, regardless of cost.
