One of my favorite shapes that Castello nails, is it's #49 Calabash. I love the flowing look and it also smokes like a champ.

You guys are awesome... If you couldn't predict my ulterior motive, you're whittling down my hours of google searching to add to my collection. It took me more than a week to find the GBD Prince that I love, and a few more hours to find one for sale and in stock to buy. :)

The Lovat pipe shape? I have been searching for a Lovat pipe to acquire.

Who was the first pipe maker to produce it?

and who makes a good Lovat pipe today?

The Sasieni Marlborough is a great example of the Lovat.

GBD 135 a taper bit Billiard in Pedigree, Virgin and Prehistoric.
GBD 9242 a taper bit Rhodesian in Pedigree, Virgin and New Standard. My unattainable Holy Grail in any finish.
GBD 789 a taper bit Pot in Flame Grain and Virgin.

Some folks have already named some of my favorites, but, when it comes to a cherrywood, my pick is the Peterson SH Hopkins. To my eye, it looks best in rusticated finish. Personally, have that shape in the Kinsale line as opposed to the SH line, though. I could also add that my favorite apple is the B42 shape, also by Peterson.

I don't think I've handled enough different brands to do a comparative analysis of their shapes, but just a few I enjoy:
Peterson's 999 Rhodesians, and B11 bent brandy's

Savenelli's apples, princes, and yachts

Joh's and Nordings Danish freehands

Ferndown's bent billiards

Stanwell's bulldogs, 32 and 191

I’m wishing I had that Lovat Al posted as we speak! Haha.
Mark Tinsky really nails some great renditions of the bulldog and it’s varietals in my humble opinion. I’ve 4 and counting of his bulldogs, all excellent smokers and well cut.

After reading all the replies I may have misunderstood the OP. I understood the question as, do specific brands have a shape which comes to mind right away and are specific shapes brand specific.
When I think of these brands I think of these shapes;
Castello – 55 and 65.

Dunhill – the straight billiard and bent billiard

Tokutomi – the blow fish

Jess Chonowtisch – straight Danish Brandy

Poul Ilsted – slightly bent faceted bulldog

Rainer Barbi – elegant long shank Dublins

Larry Roush – the poker hawk

GBD and Comoy – I think the Prince and thick shanked Rhodesians

Barling – straight saddle stem pot ( no idea why I see that though when I think Barling )

Peter Heeschen – the Nautilus

Bo Nordh – Ramses

Peterson – bent billiard with silver shank cap
I suppose if I taxed my little blonde brain I could add to the list.
As far as brand specific shapes, that I found much more difficult. Many carvers are skilled at a variety of shapes and offer many well known shapes.
Dunhill – Duke, Don, and Cavalier

Charatan – reverse bell

Castello – dome topped shank ( with flat base ) straight billiard

Becker ( Fritz & Paolo era ) – oliphont
I am sure that many could add to the above and argue that my list is incorrect. These are just my opinions. Mainly the top, which is purely what shape I think of when the brand is mentioned, before a shape is suggested.
The lower list are just brands that do shapes, that I do not think many others offer. Yes, Il Ceppo does a Cavalier, as does Road Town. The reverse bell is not often seen by anyone other than Charatan. The Castello shape, I think Tonino Jacono does something similar. The Oliphont is essentially a tall horn, but the Becker version is unique.

I think everyone got the spirit of my question. Basically for this reason- I'm in the process of building my collection, eventually I'd like to have a great example of each major shape.
However, I'm spending quite a bit of time on the internet looking at what I want... perhaps too much time. By getting the collective experience and opinions of this board, It's helping me focus my searches. When I get 2 or 3 people agreeing on a particular brand and shape number for a given major shape, I look it up, see pictures of it, and see if it agrees with me.
For example, I already have a GBD 357 which covers the Prince shape. The first time I saw a Peterson B11 Spigot, it "spoke" to me, and that covers the Brandy shape. Next, I'm looking for a Canadian. Based on replies here, I looked up the Dunhill EC, and it jumped out at me as exactly what I want in a Canadian (I just need to justify my budget now :)) As time and money allow, I eventually want to get at least 20-24 pipes, each in a different shape, that are good representations of their respective shape.
Thanks again all.

@loadcear - I get it. Pretty early on, I started developing a "Holy Grail" shape list of the makes and shapes I was seeking. It grew to almost 20 shapes in the past seven years and eventually, I found all of them. Now, I only seek to upgrade the existing shape to higher grades.

loadclear, hurrah, I've been commending the Pete B11 for years and have heard back only one other amen on that. I don't have a spigot, but I just love the shape, the relatively light weight for the size bowl, that nice big bowl, and with all of that, it's a graceful shape that is also a stable sitter! Great shape.
