most likely it's good. There have been a few issues over the years and those people just seem to disappear. You can always look and try to see how others have gotten along with buying from them. I won't buy from someone I didn't feel comfortable with and trusting of. But at the end of the day there isn't a great return on scamming unless you're "selling" something high end. More then likely it will be fine usually is, but no promises.

How do I see how others got along with this person?

I don't think it would hurt or insult anyone if you asked. Especially if the seller gets lots of glowing reviews of dealing with them. I only have sold one thing on this site and it went great. It was a pipe that is a great pipe, in fact one that I never felt comfortable with trying to smoke as it was just too nice for me to relax. For me it came from being here long enough seeing that the person who bought it was trust worthy and had dealings that went swimmingly with other people here.
It's a pretty small community and if someone burns people on bad deals word will get around pretty quickly. And if someone wanted to scam or do bad business there would be places where it could be done much easier then here. Not saying it can't happen but it's mostly unlikely. But if you're concerned I don't want to say just go for it. But frankly there is a better chance of your mailbox being stolen right when you get the package then someone who has been here doing a bad deal (either could happen though). But more then likely a good number of sales go on here and I think I've seen one issue in the years I've been here. And the guy sold tobacco he said would be bagged but he shipped it in glass jars that got broken. More a weirdly sad situation then anyone actively trying to be malicious as far as I could see. And I heard some rumors about some jerk that tried to scam people and who has been doing that at pipe shows and all over the internet.

The last three packages I sent out were lost or destroyed in transit. I'd only order from online dealers, they'll often refund or replace missing or damaged items.

Wow, that seems incredibly unlucky. (I’m hoping that information was provided by the shipper and not a recipient who was trying to get away with something.) My wife has an Etsy business and has shipped literally thousands of orders; I think she’s had just a single lost shipment in 8 years.

I think you can also get a sense of someone by looking at their posts here, to see how they interact with the community. Are they helpful, bullying, humorous, short-tempered…? Do they at least seem like people you’d like to do business with?

Pretty rare to see someone complaining about a transaction with another member on the site. If you want assurances purchase from a reputable on line vendor like SP.

Reading posts may be helpful but it has been my experience that some people who at times come off as surly or gruff are also exceptionally generous and conscientious.

I wouldn’t hesitate to buy from or trade with anyone here if they have been around for awhile.
