LOL Pipestud!
You're just trying to hype up the Doctor because of the eBay trade you made with the guy that had a rare and priceless heirloom,

you're lucky he was willing to part with it,

I expect it'll go on the auction block soon now you've padded up the legend!

I have an Omega and a Grand Duke and they are my smallest pipes so I smoke flake in them. I think all Grabow pipes must be on the smaller side.

No,not actually. While they are made in a limited number of shapes today,I have a chart from 1988 that shows that the Grand Duke was made in 23 different shapes (in rustic and smooth finish) including the 36 large billiard and 69 extra large billiard,45 large pot and 47 large bent billiard.

Not exactly "Magnums" but not small either.

The Omega has been made in three sizes, most common seems to be the mid size 37.

If I counted correctly,in 1988 Grabow made 44 different shapes--in 15 lines. Not all shapes were available in all lines.

In 1981 they made about 74 shapes.In 1949 they made 57 shapes.

Just a note on Dr. Grabow smoking. I just smoked my first bowl in a Dr. Grabow without the filter, and it draws well. My only

comment would be that the free draw does make the bowl burn a little faster, so factor that in if you are using your best

( or priciest) tobacco. I have a Dr. Grabow Royalton bulldog, a beautiful little pipe, well shaped, nicely finished, with a burnt

orange acrylic stem. I think it is comparable to bulldogs I paid two or three times as much for. It has a solid feel, and a

nuanced shaping in the briar that might be hand-made if I didn't know better, if the style and shape weren't so well known.

I got two Dr. Grabow pipes shortly after I started pipe smoking. One is a straight labeled as a Duke. The bowl is tiny and it was overheating horribly. I figured it was user error, but even four months later, it still burned the crap out of my hand any time I touched it. I removed the lacquer or whatever the finish is. Now I have a cool smoking, no-finish pipe that has somehow become my go-to for Frog Morton. Don't know why, but the taste is just incredible in the little thing!
I also have a 'acorn' one, not sure what that style is called, labeled Grand Duke and straight. Smoked like a dream first bowl and keeps going. Never had a problem with overheating.
@carcosa, I think you are right on the size concerning the newer ones, at least the ones I've seen at my local drug store. Never seen a older one up close, though.
