I just asked a friend to buy a pipe in Japan, and even though it was a bit dirty, I could clean it.
The question that follows is, where can I look up Japanese pipes? There are too few records on PIPEDIA.

That makes sense. I guess old Dunhills were made in China. I've seen a lot of them with the stems like that.
The best way to research it is full emersion. Become Japanesse (don't just move there, alter your genes) and also become a pipe maker. Short of that just ask around till someone knows something.

Well decorative English is popular in Japan. Which is English that has zero concern for the actual meaning but makes it look foreign and fancy. And also lead to some of the best t-shirts I have owned.
