Hello, I am brand new to the forum and I have a question about what to do with unopened tobacco. My brother-in-law passed away about a year ago and he left a large box full of unopened and sealed tobacco, as well as a box of pipes. The pipes, of course, have been smoked before. I wanted to try and sell everything on eBay for my sister, however, I found out that you cannot sell tobacco products on eBay. I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestion on what to do with the tobacco. I live in Illinois.

A few examples of what is included in the box of tobacco:
Frog Morton’s Cellar 2015
Frog Morton on the Bayou 2015
McClellands Christmas Cheer 2015
MacBaren’s (8 different kinds)
Dunhill (7 kinds)
Samuel Gawith Full Va Flake
Balkan Blue 2015
And more.

I’m not writing this to try and sell it to anybody, but I am just asking for some advice because I know nothing about pipe smoking or pipes or tobacco. I wanted to sell it for my sister, but found out that that is illegal in my state.

I welcome any advice at all and, thank you very much in advance.

There are some marketable tobacco's in your list. Contact PipeStud to see if he can sell any of it. And Hello and Welcome from Washington State!

I would suggest that you contact someone who specializes in estates exactly like this. Steve at Pipestud.com has a following and will bring you a larger return. He does keep a percentage, but unless you already have pipe collectors and tobacco hounds following you, you won't get the return he can. He is worth his percentage, IMO>

You can sell the pipes either new (unsmoked) or used "estate" on eBay. Perfectly fine with eBay and I do it all the time, as do many others. Just make sure to list them accurately and honestly.

If you want to sell the tobacco but aren't sure how, contact Pipestud. He will sell and ship it for you for a reasonable fee.

I'd go with pipe stud. There are a few in there that will get snatched up pretty fast. You might get more on an auction site but maybe not. Honestly that mostly sounds like the collection of a guy who knows what people will be looking for.

The simplest way to sell the tobaccos would be to contact Steve Fallon who has a site where he sells vintage tobaccos, pipestud.com. You can also contact him about the pipes.

Other options include listing the more valuable ones on Tinbids, which is an auction site for vintage tobaccos. It's more work, but you may get more money for the tobaccos. You can also sell pipes there.

eBay also allows for listing pipes for sale, but not tobaccos.

Good info on the tobacco, a bit thin on the pipes. If they are "everyday" pipes or whatever you label them, lower end, it would probably be best to list them as a lot on ebay. If there are some nicer pipes or higher grade pipes, Steve would be an option or you could do the ebay thing yourself and probably figure it out with the search button and sold history of similar pipes.

To get top dollar for the nicer ones, you would want a restoration which I believe Steve does not do. There are others here who could help with that I am sure...:col:

Pipestud's your guy.
Thank you for your advice. I created a list of pipes also but I have no idea which ones are good or not. They include: Bings Favorite, Luciano, Alligator, Thompson, E. Wilke, Black Sheep, Danish Star, Savinelli Tortuga and a bunch that just have ‘Italy’ on them. There are about 20 pipes that have names on them and 25 or so that are without names.
I will send a letter with all the info to pipestud today and hope for the best :)
