This much I can tell you. It’s post WW2 and it’s a Sasieni 2nd. It’s a highly enough rated 2nd that Sasieni put their name on it, which they didn’t do with lesser grades.
Sasieni, like Comoy, downstreamed their lesser wood, creating a prolific number of 2nds, 3rds, 4ths, etc.
Thanks!

Jesse’s got the right timeframe. I know the Sashar was introduced by 1950 and doubt it appeared before 1948. I’d need to dig deeper to narrow that down but I doubt it’s worth the effort. As for how long it was made I know it was available in some markets at least through the mid 1970s.

I should add that notwithstanding the Wesley write-up the Sashar was not sold only in South Africa. It appears in a variety of brand directories, trade advertisements, and price lists aimed at the UK market as well.

Thanks for adding that. It seems like a well-made pipe. I’m looking at auctions in Japan. Japanese collectors are usually right on this stuff. But they are somewhat different than other collectors. These two pipes are likely to go for over 100$. Not too bad if one wanted to go for it. They’re nice looking pipes. However, one can get genuine verified pre-transition Comoy’s for that. On the other hand, these ARE two nice looking specimens. If people are interested to know, I can follow and report what they went for. Actually, it’s also Chinese buying these. The Yen is cheap.
