The reasoning behind my question is this: when President Obama took office it started a massive amount of buying of firearms and ammunition because many feared he would create more regulation/restrictions. Even now .22 LR is scarce in my area with inflated prices on what little can be found (luckily I still have a couple of bricks I bought pre-panic).
With the new regulations from the FDA are we seeing the same scenario with pipes and tobacco? I ponder this as I look at my cellar and at my monthly budget....hmmmm do I really need to eat every day?

In one sense I can see the similarities between those who stockpile ammo and those who stockpile tobacco. A common emotion driving this person to buy up as much as they can afford might be fear. As one who enjoys this hobby immensely (pipe smoking) and who wants to continue to enjoy it for the rest of his days I can relate to the fear factor in a small way. Whether you're loading guns with ammo or loading pipes with tobacco you need a steady supply on hand. If you sense there will come a day when demand will far exceed supply or that supply will be no more then it's kind of natural to want to plan ahead and buy, buy, buy.
On the other hand...one way in which tobacco is unlike ammo is that some types improve significantly with age and therefore pipe smokers tend to build cellars of all sizes, not out of fear, but out of a love for having aged blends on hand down the road. Nobody purchases ammo with the intention of letting it sit thinking that a bullet with 10 years of age on it will be more enjoyable to shoot out of a gun.
So I guess the answer to your question is it depends. If the person is buying out of fear then I think the answer is yes.

If Hillary gets in you can count on two things.

1. She will cave to the Bloomberg health nuts.

2. There will not be a cigar anywhere in the Whitehouse.

Yep.
There's a reason some of our European friends (remember Per Jensen's response to "cellaring"?) think the folks in the US are nuts.
I think it's a key reason that drives up tobacco and pipe prices, frankly. Just like it did with ammo. Ammunition dealers love the scare.
America in general has a larger than life hoarding mentality for some reason.

Then there's the pipe show loophole, and the assault Oom-Paul bans. And the concealed carry cobs. Better by blends only in tubs.

Watching them stumble into a death spiral, it's hard not to think that they might just be wrong and compensating.
There's a war on anything fun that does not support a certain agenda. Counter-culture OK, old culture bad. Think on that one.
As far as cellaring ammunition or tobacco goes, it's unlikely to get any cheaper and possession is nine-tenths of the law.
It has been shown that tobacco users are not enough of a voting bloc to turn aside any regulation no matter how insane.
With tobacco as less important as a crop, it has fewer defenders at the state level.
We all make fun of the guy with the sign that says "the end is near," but every great tragedy was universally denied until it happened.

I'm not much of a conspiracy guy, but things are starting to get insane in this country. When people are talking about putting rules or legislation on tobacco, while in the same breath talking about decriminalizing certain drugs, it starts to seems like there are a whole bunch of people trying to wave their hand over here, so you don't see what is going on over there! A stone and lazy society is a society that can be taken easy. None of us are getting out of this game alive, so what is the harm in cigars, pipes, cigarettes, dip, snuff? I don't get it! Let's face it, like it or not BIG TOBACCO is the only real hope. They are the only ones that have the money or lobbyists to do anything about any of this. While cigarettes are declining here in the US, the Asian market is booming! All a simple piper can really hope for is to slide in under the radar of them or the political powers that still enjoy cigars. Tobacco in general may become a type of currency at some point in the future. No matter how one looks at it,or current events. This country is going to HELL quick!

I bought 11 pounds of tobacco this week. All blends introduced since 2007. Am I a Chicken Little? Nope. I'm an opportunist. If I'm right, the value of my inventory is set to rise quicker than the S&P 500. If I'm wrong, If got a very nice stash of aging Virginia and VaPer blends that will serve to make my smoking in retirement all that more enjoyable. I don't really care what tobacco is available in 2036, because I hope to be smoking 20 year old Virginias purchased in 2016.
My downside is exactly what?

Big Tobacco is not our hope at all. They benefit from this legislation wiping out some of their competition - the cheap bagged "pipe" rolling tobacco and "little" cigars that are cheaper than cigarettes.

That's so true! There is actually FAR less stigma among some age demographics with weed than there is for tobacco. What a bizarre time we live in.

Well! Gentlemen with that, I'll say you can stick the pipe in your ass and enjoy that properly. But don't you dare smoke that harmful tobacco in it.

These thing are caused by governments., not by the people. The USA has become a police, bureacratic state, where the government forces you to drop your free will.

On LevinTV, Mark Levin brought up the E Cigarette Regulations, stating that Obama is using an expedited process to keep Other Presidents from changing these regulations in the future. I've stated on this forum recently, that this 4th branch of government, is illegal, unconstitutional, and is being used to pass law in the executive branch. Look what we have to choose from a Progressive Populist Trump and a Porgreasive Statist Clinton. Guys it doesn't look good. Soft despotism is turning into pure tyrannical Despotism.
