In the sticks in Mississippi
I've been digging through some old pipes that I've had for years that needed some restoring. I cleaned up with this Kaywoodie that I've been trying to date to some degree. The #83 shape shows up in the 1936 pipe guide from Kaywoodie as a slim octagon. However it's stamped Standard too which doesn't seem to be used until 1955. It's also stamped Made in England and has a small clover on the top of the stem. It has a 4 hole stinger but no stampings on the stinger itself. Maybe the pipes made in England used the classification Standard earlier? I looks like the pipes made from about 1936-1940 though. Any thoughts?

Normally I’d say a Standard with a two digit shape code and a 4 hole stinger is a 50s pipe. But the writings available pertain to American pipes. The English Kaywoodie kind of did their own thing. So what you perceive as earlier markings are just…different. Ditto shapes. I think English manufacturers had some different shapes. And American production dates might not apply to them at all. Until someone proves otherwise , I’m saying it’s a 1950ish pipe.

You could be right. This shape is shown in the 1946 Kaywoodie Pipe chart, but I'm sure they could have been making the same shape up through the 1950s. I had an English made Kaywoodie years ago, but it had a regular push stem. I wonder who made this pipe with the screw in stinger stem in England. Kaywoodie's have an interesting history for sure.
