I wonder for what or which Temple Bar pipe-tobacco was named? The oldest and most storied (at least in the United States) was the Mory's Temple Bar in New Haven, Connecticut, home of Yale University. Mory's was founded in 1849, and is referred to in The Whiffenpoof Song as sung here by Mr. Crosby.

Mory's is still in business today. Here is a link to the "About Us" page of their Website which provides a history of this historic venue.

My father designed and built his Grade A milk barn in 1958 and I still have the original blueprints he had a professional draftsman render for the constructors and approval by the local AFCS Office for a twenty year government loan, my mother paid in full in 1978.

My mother was pregnant with me, the sixth pregnancy she told me about, and since she’d lost the first five, my father and Dr GW Robinson and her mother Myrtle Cahow “Ma” Agee had her on close observation.
Wait a dog-gone minute. You were born in 1958? Boy you sure took me for one big ride.

Would have thought you were older than that!

It’s named as a nod to the Temple Bar district in Dublin.

At the time I became a Deacon in the church when I was ten that Decoration Day I was allowed to join the church Elders led by my father decorating sand rock grave markers in Lindley Prairie Churchyard who starved to death in the Drought of 1901.

Some of those rocks only bore the Cross of Calvary to mark the hallowed grave of a good Christian.

We always remember and never forget our own, for two thousand years.

We also decorated the graves of our loyal and brave cavalry ancestors and their comrades who fought so that others might live free, and also their darling wives, in many cemeteries.

The Two Burials of Nathan Beason is a lecture I gave many times as a Deacon.

We are Christians only, but not the only Christians.

This was the only one of my six cans not branded G L Pease but Two Friends, which is a collaboration between G L Pease and another man now gone to his eternal reward.

It’s a standard strength English mixture, best smoked in a Missouri Meerschaum as to not ghost up a fine briar.

My wife wants to go eat at Arrow Rock at the J Huston Tavern this afternoon and maybe watch the play at the Lyceum Theatre.

Arrow Rock is a historic village and National Historic Landmark District in Saline County, Missouri, named for a bluff where Native Americans once gathered flint for arrowheads. It was a significant frontier settlement and a key stop on the Santa Fe Trail, known for its role in westward expansion and as a center for the fertile "Boone's Lick Country". Today, visitors can explore the well-preserved village, which features historic buildings like the J. Huston Tavern, shops, restaurants, and the Arrow Rock State Historic Site.

History & Significance
  • Native American Origins:
The name "Arrow Rock" comes from a bluff on the Missouri River where Native Americans sourced flint to make arrowheads.

  • Santa Fe Trail:

  • Boone's Lick Country:
Arrow Rock is located in the "Boone's Lick Country," a fertile region named for a salt spring across the river, which attracted many immigrants after the War of 1812.

  • National Historic Landmark:
The entire village was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1963, recognizing its importance in American history.
What to See & Do
  • Arrow Rock State Historic Site:
This site includes the J. Huston Tavern, the oldest continuously operating restaurant west of the Mississippi River, along with other historic buildings and exhibits.

All my life I’ve heard snickers and jibes we Christian only boys are members of some kind of cult.

But the United States Navy is sure to put one of us at the helm of every capital ship to make sure and certain one of us will be the first to die, if it sinks.

The beauty of visiting a splendidly stocked half century old Jon’s Pipe Shop franchise pipe shop in the heart of The District under the shadow of The Columns owned by an 89 year old Doctor of European history is that while you lounge and smoke and drink coffee and watch students stroll by through the enormous store length widow while Wayne Davis makes history come alive, is your wife or lady friend is free to explore all the shops downtown or pick up food at the little foreign food joints everywhere in The District.

My wife feels so much better she’s getting her hair and nails done today while I lounge on my back deck and check the latest history videos on You Tube and read about the building of the Brooklyn Bridge.

And Drachinfel today just landed the final and fatal salvo on HMS Hood before she started to make her signaled turn by a letter from a 108 year old survivor viewing from the port side of his action station at the double quadruple Pom Pom array of HMS Prince of Wales, just behind her bridge.

My wife wants to see the Pompei Exhibit at the St Louis Science Center

——

The sudden disaster that destroyed the city also preserved a unique record of daily life at the height of the Roman Empire. Artifacts on loan from the Naples National Archaeological Museum in Italy, and the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, take visitors through a unique Roman villa and onto the winding streets of Pompeii, exploring the forum, theater and marketplace along the way.

An immersive 4-D eruption experience allows guests to experience the eruption itself. CGI imagery, surround sound and special effects bring Mount Vesuvius to life with startling reality.

If we get up early Monday and head north to Columbia I can watch the arrival of Wayne Davis while she gets us some breakfast at First Watch and we can eat in Stephen’s Park and head East towards the Pompeii Exhibt and then eat supper by The Eads Bridge.

Or any damned place she wants to eat in St Louis, you know?

I also have a nice little set of earbuds to listen to inspirational songs on our adventures.

I read where the St. Louis Science Center gives a two dollar discount to geezers like me on Medicare and Social Security, which is always nice to be able to afford a few little luxuries like GL Pease pipe tobacco at Jon’s Pipe Shop in Columbia, you know?
If you can make the exhibit, you should definitely go. I saw this one or one similar maybe 20 years ago. The first half was a glimpse into every day life in Pompeii & the latter half was about the day of the eruption. The plaster casts of the victims caught in the cataclysm are haunting. Seeing what it once was & what it was instantly reduced to makes you realize just how fragile we all are.
I hope you can take the time to see it.

My wife said on Monday.

Today we are going to State Fair Community College in Sedalia on our way to Arrow Rock.

She’s my driver, and I’m the Commander and Navigator and Right Side Door Gunner.:)

She’s as loyal as Kay Summersby, at least for last 25 years she has been.

Now which pipe (s) to bring?

Here’s my newest.

As someone who is only ethnically Jewish (but not practicing), even I know that temples don't have bars. My people are notoriously subpar when it comes to being able to hold their liquor. This can be especially problematic in a theologically sensitive situation, where services tend to run several times longer than most human beings can stand without having to take a cat nap, urinate, or both (hopefully not at the same time).

I mean, we created Manischewitz after all... 🤷‍♂️
