Ok I've been wondering........does pipe tobacco have all the nasty additives that cigarette tobacco has?

Generally speaking, around 496 less additives. Think sugar, propylene glycol (a food grade humectant), booze, and...yeah, that's about it.

As others have already stated, there aren't really any additives compared to what they put in cigs. With pipe tobacco there is PG and food grade addatibes for flavor in aromatics. Whereas in cigarettes there is ammonia and all kinds of disgusting chemicals that make them more addicting. If you need to kill time one day, look up "Modern Marvels Tobacco" on YouTube. It tells about tobacco production and the differences between cigarettes, cigars, and pipes. A vey enlightening series of videos.

At Cornell and Diehl, they add H2O, and a food-grade anti-mold inhibitor. In addition, they do add "top-note" flavors on aromatic blends which are also food grade and contain a miniscule amount of alcohol or Propylene Glycol (PG) as a preservative inside the flavor they use (only). For all practical purposes, there is no comparison to ciggarettes whatsoever. Pipe tobacco by comparison, would be considered "pure" in any chemical analysis comparison. Just the paper-wrapper in ciggarettes, by itself, contains many chemicals without even getting into the tobacco contents and fillers. ONE COULD ARGUE THAT THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO IS THAT PIPE TOBACCO IS NOT DIRECTLY INHALED IF SMOKED PROPERLY AS COMPARED TO CIGGARETTES WHICH ARE TYPICALLY DIRECTLY INHALED TO THE LUNG TISSUES. With the pipe, properly smoked, nicotine is absorbed by the mouth tissues not the lung tissues!

+1 to Mark.
Cigarettes and pipe tobacco only have one thing in common. They were originated from a tobacco leaf.
Look into it, and you'll find that 95% of cigarettes are made from the left overs after making good pipe tobacco and cigars.
