I think it's the tobak. Dryer is better than wetter. 15% moisture is the ideal. However, good luck in measuring that. One would have to weigh tobacco pre-sauced and pre-moisturized and then weigh it again after topping and added water moisture. An easy test is to squeeze tobacco hard between your tumb and first finger. If it clumps, it is too moist. If it falls apart, maybe too much on the dry side. But, if it is just at that stage where it tries to clump and some does and some does not, it is probably perfect moisture.

As someone said already, some heat is natural. But following the advice my dad gave me when I began smoking pipes helped me avoid a lot of beginner's problems.
The Vernon Cool & Dry Method
Dry your tobacco more than you think you need to.

Pack it looser than you think you need to.

Smoke it slower than you think you need to.

Tamp it less , and more lightly, than you think you need to.

Clean your pipes after every smoke, using pipe spirits of some sort.

Don’t worry if you have a few relights.

I make it a point to buy pipes that have a lot of briar to them, and thicker than normal chamber walls. I don't like to have to slow my smoking because of heat.

I don't think that because your pipes have thicker walls that you get to bypass the rule that a pipe can and will smoke too hot if left unchecked.
My brian tells me that no matter how thick the walls of your pipe are the wall that is in direct contact with the ember can heat up quite a bit. And the temp difference between the inside and the outside seems like it could cause a bite of trouble of the cracking kind.
Am I off base or is there some truth in my meandering?
I will admit to feeling safer with a pipe with thick walls, but at the same time I think that sense of safety is misplaced.
Regardless of the risk of damage (minor or major) to your bowl if the smoke is hot your tongue suffers. But if the smoke temp feels right and you don't think that the bowl is too hot then keep on smoking on.
Lessons learned on our own are closer to heart than those of strangers.

Jobacco- that's what I thought it was before, did you call or do it online? I went to check out, and shipping was going to be $20 for 1 tin and a few small accessories!

Thanks,

its a pretty basic pipe but it work just fine.

The walls are not very thick, it might not help for the heat.

But i checked the way i smoke and i dont think i smoke too hot because i never get tounge bite.

I will try today to pack a bit less my pipe to see if it makes a difference.

If you pack with the 3-step method, tamp the first 2 fills just hard enough to make space in the bowl then tamp the last a little more judiciously, but not so hard that you can't take an easy draw. Think iced tea, not milkshake.
