I use small thin rings cut from surgical rubber tubing.

Slip em off during cleaning before racking.

Covers only area where teeth hit stem.

Works well for me.
Thanks for posting that pic Kashmir, It helped me when I modified those rubber tips. They have an end that is fat, which I did not like so I just cut it off....perfect. :puffpipe:

I fought so hard to try and not use softy bits for a while, but for some reason, I couldn't clench on a naked stem. Then I caved in and got a pack of softy bits on amazon (it was like 50 for $2.50..not bad) and I've found it's perfect for me. No rubber taste, makes the clenching easier, and cheap!
