I’m smoking a bowl of Pease Kensington; but not because of the death of the Queen since I started it before I heard of her demise. But I wish her God’s peace and forgiveness. I also wish the same for her dimwit son, now the King of England, who will now unfortunately spend his time hectoring the world on climate change idiocy.

It definitely marks the end of an era. I'll be drinking a dram of Famous Grouse and smoking a bowl of Nightwatch tonight contemplating monarchy and a life lived at peak performance.
I remember being on Derby rail station as a small boy when the Royal Train passed through & the Queen waved to everyone on the platform as the train passed through the station!
A shame she didn't make 100 like her mother, but she would have had to send herself a telegram

I have a good respect for HM and after watching the Crown, I gained even more respect for Prince Phillip and how that guy lived life especially early on in their marriage.
Little story. My first career was in aviation. The Royal Air Force would do joint ops with Offutt and the Brit version of Air Force 1 would drop her off in Canada and fly here and do whatever at Offutt AFB. The Royal Air guys were awesome. They took us for a tour on the Queens plane and went drinking with us that night. They had the time of their lives and the Nebraska ho's fell all over themselves withe guys accents.
There was one Scotsman who you would swear whatever he was speaking wasnt English. The others would repeat in a way we could understand him.

I remember watching her coronation on TV as a six-year-old boy. It was our first TV, and what a way to start my life as an avid television devotee (couch potato).

The King does not have a public position. A Prince is expected to have them, voice them and, through his offices, support them. Also, we, the site members, are expected to refrain from political discussions.

I echo the praising posts. There'll never be another like her - in my life time at least.
Side note: I had tea with Her Majesty when I was a lad. That there were 700 others also taking tea at that time somewhat diminishes the cosy factor.....

Elizabeth II made an art of fulfilling her royal duties long after the splendors of the job had worn off. Few have had such a gracious public life blessed with such longevity.
Some of my ancestors were strong on the side of the American Revolutionary War, Colonel Prescott for one, of the, "Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes" fame. I'm glad we formed a separate nation. But Britain is still one of my "old countries." Reading history with an open mind and open eyes is not for the faint of heart.

Elizabeth was the perfect monarch of Great Britain and the Commonwealth. She knew her duty and how to fill it. Charles will be much the same except the people would really rather have William on the throne. If it hadn't of been for today's news media we wouldn't have heard a tenth of the stuff he was involved with. Can you imagine the field day the press would have with Edward VII if they acted like the media today.
The Queen did a superb job of being the symbolic face of British national pride and identity, especially considering that her time as Queen was during a period of dramatic transition for Britain. It appears that King Charles has already risen to the occasion of his ascendency to the throne and I believe he will serve well. He has the superb example of his mother to follow.
