Hello to all-
I just received my 1st estate, a Meerschaum Bulldog from one of the sponsors of this site. A couple quick rookie questions if I may:
1.It has s faint smell of an English blend I think. Is a faint smell normal?
2.How long should I expect to smell English if I smoke Aromatics or Virginia or Burley through the pipe?
3.Can I smoke all of the above on a Meerschaum or is it wise to dedicate only one tobacco to it?
Sorry I'm so new at this.
Thanks for any help.
Chris

Would love to see pics of this pipe if you ever get a chance. I'd like to help answer a few of your questions but I am not the 100% expert smoking monkey on here, their are many more silverbacks on here that I am sure will chime in shortly.
Meers should not generally carry a ghost, if it has a faint one that just probably from the orginal owner only smoking English blends.

With that being said you can smoke whatever kind of blend you want in it. As far as the ghost from the other owner that may just go away with time. Meers should not get a "cake" in the bowl, that is bad ju-ju.
How long that will take will depend on how often you smoke it, in other words, challenge accepted, smoke that puppy. But remember that it is good for the Meer to alow a good rest and drying time between smokes. I give mine at least a 2 day rest between.
Happy smokin, remember feed us junkies some pics if you can.

Well I only have 2 meers that I got new. But if I did get an estate one I would still clean it, you can ream a meer as long as you are careful!!! They how I clean mine is take some everclear on towel and just wipe inside. I has helped me with a few blends that have left a ghost behind. I really dont dedicate any of my pipes to and tobacco though.

I'm not a meer expert by any stretch, but avoid using alcohol on your meer. One member here posted pictures of his meer that he cleaned with alcohol and it was a purple black color. I'm not predicting gloom, just saying be careful. Also the ghosting shouldn't be a long term problem.
For some expert advice you might PM meerqueen. She knows meers.

Don't know what would turn it purple? But have used everclear in them many times, and no problems. Mine a block meers not the pressed. I don't know if that would make a difference. But you could always send it in to Walker and have it ozoned also.
