Putting Stuff in Jars!

Due to the smell out of the package, I remove the lid, wave the jar in the air a few times and the smell disappears - fill & cap.

I then spin three times with my left eye closed, bow to the east, ask for favor from the god of the leaf and spit twice on the carpet...

Nah, just the first part.

New jars: no prep.
Used jars: wash with Dawn and dry with paper towel.
No problems.

That's how you get mold and little bugs in your tobacco. You have to POP the head off, not TWIST.

Out of equal curiosity, were you thinking people might sterilise them so they didn't impart their own impure scent or for some kind of health reasons?

I'm not here to take the piss or anything, I'd just find it odd if it were the latter because surely the burning of the leaf would both kill anything nasty and lead to us sucking in what is already carcinogenic anyway?

Mold is always the issue with cellars or humidors. But, we had a member that had a case of new Mason Jars tested, and they come more sterile than if you boiled them. Actually, anything that you do to them in thinking that it will better clean a new jar will make it less sterile than if you just use it fresh out of the box.

Suppose you could fart in the jar before sealing the lid but it might impart a slight sulphur quality to the tobacco although with one or two blends that come to mind that might be an improvement!

But I'm glad to know my laziness, is actually doing me good, rather than cleaning them first and making them less clean in the long run.
