Yes, you have that correct. Except the Sutliff is double bagged in Ziplock.

The tobacco is dry. Not overly. Appears to be just right to the touch. And it doesn’t appear to have any white moldy white spots.

Mildew perhaps?
I suppose it could be. In fact, about the only thing I can think of that'd explain why three separate containers have the same bad smell.
I'd guess the mildew is now dead, as you say the tobacco is dry. But the memory lingers on! Also the actual smell.....

I ordered a few match blends from a particular online retailer a couple months ago. Tobacco smelled fine when it arrived. But has now developed a kind of putrid odor. Almost like the presence of a Colby cheese or something mixed in with the leaf.

Anybody experienced this before? Any ideas?
Watch for mold. That putrid cheese smell can be a symptom.

Orientals sometimes lend a "funk" to the tin/jar/pouch aroma and all three of those have orientals in them. I have had this present as a dirty socks smell, wet dog, and rotten fruit. Mind you this is the tin note not the taste of the smoke. I distinctly remember Lancer's slices having a strong barnyard odor (although that one lacks orientals)
