The biggest causes of death are stress, surgeons and generals.
Pipe smoking reduces stress and makes one think more philosophically…which makes you question the wisdom, efficacy and motives of surgeons and generals. :puffy:

The more you listen to what is healthy and good for you ... the more you realize if you truly want to be long lived you have to basically stop living and doing all the things that allow you to happy.

yeah... makes a lot of sense to me.

Stress causes many problems mentally that sooner or later seeps over to physical problems as well. So a guy smokes a pipe and it eases his stress and helps him feel cool, calm and collected. They never seem to factor that into their studies.

There have been similar seemingly confounding reports that 3 beer or a couple glasses of wine or a glass of whisky a day prevents heart attacks or something like that. I'm of the mindset that the kind of person who allows himself to enjoy a few pipefulls or a drink every day is much less uptight, suffers significantly less stress and generally lives a lifestyle that is happy and fulfilling...that is what prevents the heart attack and other health problems. Here's to all of us...long live the fine art of slowing down to enjoy life as it comes.

When my Great-grandfather was about 70 years old, he went to a new doctor for his annual physical (he'd outlived his last Dr.) The new doctor told him he was in great shape but that he should stop drinking and give up his pipes. Gramps laughed at him and said "I've outlived 6 doctors and I'll outlive you too."
I'm not sure if he outlived the doctor, but he made it to 88, always had a glass of bourbon in the evening and was never without a pipe.
