PS Luxury Bullseye Flake (Coin) A Good Intermittent Smoke

If you like to have a big bowl of something to puff on-and-off through the day, when you can't sit down for a long smoke but don't want to take time to pack each time, I suggest a well aged jar of PS Luxury Bullseye Flake (Coin). This works well in a Group 5 or 6 (big bowled) pipe to extend the smoking time, over time. I'm working on a bowl of it now, in a Johs slightly bent smooth-rusticated apple, a Christmas gift from my wife in 2011. I like smaller, lighter pipes for clenching and for many one-time sessions, but for an intermittent smoke, this is good. The blend is fine fresh, but really shines when it has had a few years to meld and mellow.

How did you prepare the coin? @sablebrush52 says this blend is cardboard before 5 years of age.

All of my LBF has 6 yrs of age on it and I enjoy it every now and then. Not quite an everyday/all day smoke for me, but I can see it being that for fans of Va/Per.

I keep multiple pounds of well aged PS Luxury Bullseye Flake on hand. I add a few pounds every year to replace the aged stuff. Sure do enjoy it.

The LBF is pretty dry by now even in the jar, but just right to smoke, so I just rub it out. It's brittle so is reduced to packable pieces in no time.

I have an aged jar of it open now. I don’t smoke it consecutively, or even everyday, but it’s ok every now and then. It’s rare for me to not just plow through an open jar.

They are all three distinctively different. I find the Peterson (Dunhill) a smoother smoke and, though it improves with aging, it is good right out of the tin. LBF is a bit spicier fresh, but is (as mentioned) a whole new wonderfully smooth smoke with a couple of years on it. I still don’t get the current Escudo I know that @Sablebrush has often vilified this blend. I won’t go quite that far but, I have plenty and I usually choose not to smoke it. I have read that other forum members have successfully stoved Escudo to a better effect. I have plans to try that.

I've got about a pound left from 2011. Good stuff but not one I grab frequently. Should last another 10 to 20 years.

As for the original post, I may give this one a shot. With a recent change in employment, I find myself setting a pipe down for longer and longer periods.

I have small sample in a jar I've been smoking for a month or two. It's different from other coins. It's little better than when I first got it. Not exactly my favorite, but there's a potential. I'll probably get some more to age along with their Navy and Twist Flakes. Typically punch out the center, fold, work it a little and stuff it. Top with loose bits and rubbed center for tinder. I think I'll have some tomorrow.

I love this coin after about 4 to 5 years in the jar. It is one of the few blends that substantially grows in flavor with age. Fresh it's pretty tasteless to me. But given time to ripen it really delivers the goods. I just think it's released way too young.

I concur with everything said about this blend with some years behind it. I recently finished 8 ounces I purchased back in 2015 and over time it carved out a permanent spot in my lineup and pushed other more popular and pricey blends to the back burner. I still called up these other blends from time to time, but the aged LBF was a steady starter on the team and a blend that I could always count on to satisfy.
