I keep the collection in pipe boxes or if I don't have them I use white Mason Mail Master R7 boxes. For a smaller group the Stacker Pipe Boxes are perfect. I keep my tamper collections at hand in three Stacker boxes with the lighter collection in the lidded top box. They really look good! 8O

Is there a difference as to what position they are stored in? I have heard some say that they should be stored bowl down, others bowl up, and still, others say laying flat. I have a small collection of around 30 or so and am trying to figure out how I should store them to dry and stay safe, especially since my last 3 additions were a few hundred dollars apiece. And yes, I seem to suffer from PAD, lol

And, Al, your unknown image links to a page at Postimage that has, among other enticing photos, this one:

Probably not your intention to send us to date Russian women or meet a hot chickadee near my home! :)

I use pistol cases. Hold 5-7 on average and are super portable:

They were $5 each at Cabelas when they opened, but you can get them pretty cheap at Amazon, too. (I've had to buy two more shipments of them as my collection has grown. lol
Pretty sure I am on a watch list for all the pistol cases, but you know what? Screw them.

So, how much light is too much?
Most of my pipes have acrylic stems but, I think one or two are vulcanite.
I'm using two Decauter racks in the open, in a room with no direct sun exposure.
Need I be concerned?

Shouldn't be. Just keep them clean and oil the vulcanite stems from time to time. Even if they do oxidize a little, it's easy to fix.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I just checked and a couple of my pipes have vulcanite stems, so I am moving them to an old armoire cabinet for storage to keep them out of the light until I figure out where to store them permanently. That's where I currently have my cellar housed so it's convenient I suppose.
