love the cob.. love them more since I picked up a couple Forever stems. ti keep the cake in check get yourself a 12ga shotgun brush a couple of turns and a pipe cleaner

Just treat the cob like you would with any briar pipe, use a pipe cleaner whenever the airflow stops completely (can take years). When you want to get the used tobacco out of the pipe after a good smoke, just turn it upside down and smack it on the concrete until it all comes out, if it doesn't come out real easy, just remove the stem so that you can smack it even harder on the ground without breaking it. All the rough marks on your pipe can be sanded down when they become too much. When the cake builds up, take any knife laying around and scrape it until you peel away that first layer of wood (or in this case cob). Keep in mind you want a fresh layer to start from.
