It's all been going downhill since Bach.
Beethoven was onto a nice little earner - he would write out the orchestral score but not the piano, which he kept in his head. Then he would tour his new stuff for a couple of years and then, only reluctantly, score the whole piece so others could have a go - only when he'd made a ton of cash, though. Of course, when he went deaf and had to stop playing, then he had to write the whole thing out.

I liked hearing about the time his 'page turner' sitting at the piano, had to keep a straight face, because the score to his new piece that he was playing live had just a few random hieroglyphic scribbles on each page, and no actual music notes!

William H. Macy had this quote about movies of the past, specifically he was quoted in a Playboy interview, but the quote can apply to music as well.

A 2 second Google search didn't lead me to find it, so I'll summarize what I remember. But he said he hates when people say older movies were better than current movies, that it's just not true, it only seems like that because we only remember now the good ones of the past and only show the good ones, but that there was a lot of garbage too released in those times that gets forgotten or overlooked, and that most of the older stuff was garbage, and that's the way it always is for any given year/decade.

It goes in line kind of with the previously mentioned nostalgia quote.

All decades have got their good and bad.
I have YouTube Music and that recommends me songs. I've discovered some great modern bands/songs through the recommendations. Stuff that I probably would've never come across in the normal course of events. I think it analyzes the hundreds of songs in my playlists and makes recommendations using that.
