As one who believes in slippers (or house shoes/hausschuhe here in Germany) and also believes in pipes it makes sense. I mean Earth and people and the whole lot was created in 6 days and then he had to rest. What better way to rest then with a pipe and slippers. Finding the Sunday paper and a cup of joe would seal the deal as far as I'm concerned.
Yes good people suffer (including children) and people who have done terrible things live lives of luxury and comfort. But, hey, god has a pipe to smoke in his slippers and can't be bothered at the moment.

Everyone knows that God smokes cigars. He appeared in that movie with George Burns as his stand in to prove it.
To paraphrase a quote attributed to Ben Franklin: McClellands tobacco is proof that God loves us.
Mixture 79 is proof of the devil...

True. But he also said that tobacco was one of his biggest mistakes! That and ostriches (silly looking things) and Avocados. Made the pit too big. You try.

I did not remember that he said that. Now I know for certain George Burns isn't God. Thank you.
And does anyone really believe it's only coincidence that John Denver's plane crashed one year after George Burns died?
(Note to Jay: the above was all joking (mostly)).

BIGGEST MISTAKE???
Mods, please flag that man's account as heretical and send him a packet of Captain Black Grape as part of his "re-education" and "correct thinking adjustment"!!
Although, he does have a good point about ostriches though. Hmmm....

Brian64, whilst I hold your views and your right to post them as being sacrosanct I sadly would differ on many counts regards your position.
I read the Bible..... twice, once as a child and once as a young adult. Many times did I see confliction in the content.
Fast forward many years I read Darwin's 'On the Origin of Species' then I got into Professor Richard Dawkins and his books!
Have you ever read any of his (sometimes repetitive sadly) tomes on the subject?
'God Delusion' and 'The Blind Watchmaker' are his biggest sellers and come highly recommended.
Regards,
Jay.

Try the Jerusalem Bible translated from the original French...you will have a much better understanding and historical perspective. Just a thought.

@Jay: lol ... I'm uncertain why the keen interest in my comments (none of which were meant to be taken so seriously). But you're obviously making assumptions about what I think or believe for some reason.
I mentioned earlier about the questions regarding the carbon dating of the shroud, but I never said what I believed about it...I was simply pointing out the questions.
And my comment regarding "splitting the atom" was mostly a TIC off-the-cuff comment in a primarily humorous thread...it was not intend to trigger any serious discussion.
I'm a bit puzzled also by your Bible reference. I never mentioned the Bible. I did allude to a belief in "God", but lots of people believe in God who do not believe the Bible (and please note, I'm not saying whether I do, or do not believe the Bible).
And yes, I'm very aware of Dawkins (have not read his books and don't plan to...not really interested and too many other books I'm trying to read) and Darwin of course...and I'd rather not attempt to explain my perspective on those ideas. It's just too difficult to get into all that here. And even if I did, I'm absolutely certain it would have no effect on yours or anyone else's beliefs.

"Some people say cucumbers taste better pickled....."
T'is the only way to get them to taste of anything!
Cucumbers & wasps, two things this world could well do without.

The Shroud was late proven to be a 13th century fake. Not so fast my friend read this also and then of course read up on the Our Lady Of Guadalupe. https://magiscenter.com/history-of-the-shroud-of- -cutting-through-controversy/

If God really existed or loved us, the FDA wouldn't be trying to take pipe tobacco away from us.
The children! The FDA is only trying to protect the children!
You can always smoke in your unventilated cellar, alone.

Nope...to rephrase The Battle Hymn of the (Tobacco-Free) Republic:

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of our Lord;

He is trampling down the barns where the leaves of wrath are stored;

He hath loosed the fateful lightning of the terrible Deeming word;

The FDA is marching on

That only proves that God exists by shewing there are many who choose willingly to oppose Him. That proves He loves us and thus respects our free will, even when He doesn't like our choices. Frankly, He'd save Himself a lot of trouble if He treated us like robots and really forced us to do His bidding; He certainly has power to do so, but He's too kind for that sort of spiritual statism.
As for tobacco, God doesn't make mistakes, and He doesn't do what He hates. If He had hated tobacco He wouldn't have made it. Fr. Ripperger, a traditionalist priest and exorcist, when commenting that he relaxes by smoking cigars and drinking scotch (he smokes pipes too), gives the perfect explanation of the forces behind the antis hysteria: when asked why he smokes cigars, he simply answers that he "refuse to allow demons to rob him of a normal life". He elaborates:
"That's what demons are trying to do. They envy our lives. They envy the good that we can enjoy. And so, as a result of that, they want to rob us of that: make us think all these things are evil, these things are bad, when in point in fact as long as you use them in moderation you're fine."
So, there we have it. The anti-smoking movement is driven by Satan, as are the FDA on the tobacco question (and probably in other matters as well).
