Very nice. I'm gonna have to bug you for the secret to those nice, clean bowl rims one of these days. I can do pretty well but the point comes when the saliva and cloth/cotton are taking the stain off the rim.

Too true Stig. Too true. I tend to take it to that edge, and then when I stop getting good volumes of rim char off I stop, and then ask myself if tripoli/topping/murphy's oil soap is the next step. I have found that in the couple instances where I have taken stain off with spit and towels, that waxing brings back enough of the colour to blend well. I'm still learning. The plateau top in the egg carton above is going to be a real challenge: contrast stain, rim charring in the plateau and some leaching of the stain in the clean up. I may be reaching for the febrings on that one...
If I learn any secrets I'll share 'em. We need more resurrected pipes.

Pardon the double post but...
Particularly the author. No doubt your biggest challenge, but OMG, a definite and potential winner
Hah! Yeah, I know a guy on the east coast with a view of the harbour from his balcony who LOVES him some authors... :D

Looking good so far Pat, can't wait to see them in person before you start shipping them off to parts unknown.

@brdavidson I should have them all cleaned up, with your three remaining estates, in time for our next club meeting.
Here is a pic of the stems in progress. This is after a three hour soak in oxyclean, a scrub with 0000 steel wool, and then attacking the oxidation with a no-name magic eraser. Next stop, micromesh sanding pads.

Update Time!
Okay, so as discussed above, out of the six original Brigham pipes that started this thread, only four or five had matching stems. Rats! The good news? Five stems matched after cleaning. The bad news? One of the stems is badly burned where it connects to the stummel. I'm going to have to get at it with a heavy grit sand paper to pull the burn out and it will no longer fit the stummel like a glove when I'm done. So it looks like I have a new pipe for those back-country canoe trips into Algonquin Park. BONUS.
The much adored author is now awaiting Fate's delivery of a stem that miraculously matches. This will eventually arrive in a box-lot of pipe parts, or in a future antique store find. Until then the author bowl will remain un-buffed and staring at me from my bench.
Here are the five Brigham's that fit. They are all cleaned up after completing:

1) Salt and alcohol

2) Surface clean with Murphy's Oil Soap and a toothbrush

3) Stem soak in oxyclean

4) Stem oxidation removal with 0000 steel wool and then magic eraser

5) Shank and bowl cleaning with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol and LOTS of pipe cleaners (bristle and std) and q-tips

6) Alcohol retort

7) Stem polish with micro mesh

8) Buffing with White Diamond and Carnauba Wax
Which is your favourite?
All five:

1 Dot Pot:

1 Dot 1/4 Bent Dublin:

1 Dot 1/4 Bent Dublin w Burnt/Wonky Stem:

2 Dot 1/2 Bent Billiard Partial Rustication:

4 Dot 1/2 Bent Billiard Rusticated:

The straight pot does it for me. Funny thing, all my 1 Dots are my best smokers for some reason. I have a 4 dot and two 2 dots and the one dots just seem to perform a little better. Go figure.

the Billiard/Pot is absolutely perfect
Glad to hear it Smokey! It was nice to see you this morning. Can't wait to break in my new Trypis pipes.

I knew that was going to be your favourite Brian. Nice to hear about the 1 Dots. I'll be holding onto that bent Dublin with the wonky stem, and am looking forward to re-seasoning that pipe. I also am truly looking forward to finding a stem for the author, which will also be staying in my collection, along with the Brigham VIP. I should have pics of that VIP tonight.

Many thanks to Pat for the lovely 1/4 bent Dublin. When I arrived home a few minutes ago it was waiting for me. It is my first Brigham and, let me tell you, it looks like new. Fantastic restoration job Pat.
