Tore some off, rub on your palm. Or cut some off, and rub on your palm. You can tore some off and sort of loosen it and shove it in your pipe too.

I just realized that I did same thing as the op of this post. Tried to find out what I would need to know to smoke a cake. Once I got the cake I realized there is a reason you don't need instructions, well beyond the same you get for the most commonly available blends.

Pinch off a piece or cut it with scissors or a knife. I usually place whatever I need to dry a bit and rub out into a bowl or this wide mouth short jar I like - usually enough for a bowl or two. You just got to mess with it.

Nobody says this. Nobody thinks this.
The tobacco forms you mentioned and/or their preparation are not “plagued” by the dogma you claim.

An obvious, observable, overarching theme of online pipery is “If it works for you, then it’s working”.
There is virtually no dogma in piping both in reality and online maybe other than “smoke slower”.

Not sure where you got this from but I am open minded so if you’d care to share a link or 3 that support this statement, I will humbly and happily admit my mistake.

Oh bud that’s easy.
If the cake it too hard to pinch some off, get a knife and cut thru it like a plug. It will cut thru much easier than a plug.
Get a little slug cut, work it out a bit. Not to dust but in little cube style crumbles. Gravity fill, maybe a light packing, top it off and smoke it.
Don’t be intimidated by it, it’s very easy.

Just the words “slug cut” being together have taken over my brain and now I want someone to make a slug-cut tobacco (can’t imagine what that would mean, but some tobacco manufacturer should just take it and run with it).

Would not EVERY pouch or tin of loose pipe tobacco be considered a cake before you break the vacuum seal?
