ok, one more question. i can smoke half a bowl of tobacco and only have to light 2 or 3 times. When I get down to less than half

I am relighting alot more than that. I am using a Dr. G omega and am smoking jack knife plug ready rubbed. It seems dry enough and I am not doing anything

different that I can figure out from the 1st to the 2nd half of the bowl.
Any suggestions?
Bill

That Omega is kinda small. I have one but it's been a while since I smoked it and I cant remember the smoking characteristics of the bowl. Have you tried other tobacco's or just the Jack Knife Plug? Maybe rub it out a little more and give it a bit more drying time. Pack it really light for the first half perhaps? Good luck!

When I smoke an aro or an English tobacco two or three relights is usually good for the bowl.
Virginias tend to smoke fast and hot and I found Jack Knife Plug to be no exception.

I smoked a tin this summer and found it would often stay lit for the entire bowl without a relight.
If you are not smoking in the shower or while swimming, I'm going to guess that you are packing it way too tight.

Experiment with some light packing and see how it goes.
Good luck.

I know the feeling of relighting. I look forward to the day when I get the packing thing completely figured out. Until then I will keep reading post like this and experimenting.

Thanks Phillip. I haven't mastered smoking while swimming or in the shower yet. I mean I like the pipe and all but not in shower and not

during sex....well not in the shower anyway, : 8O) so I must be packing it too tightly. I will try it a little easier next time.

2 problems mate, 1: your baccy is packed too tight on the second half of the bowl, or, 2: you have too much ash built up, dump your ash and give er a go. Those are the only 2 problems that could arise to affect the second half of the bowl.

I sencond what nsfisher said about the ash, thats my first soultion in solving relights on the 2nd half...also, you might want to try and "poke" the tobacco to fluff it up, then lightly tamp it and relight.

I think nsfisher has nailed it; and that excess tightness past mid-bowl may come from improper tamping as easily as from the initial packing.

I agree, packed too tightly. Watch your tamping during the smoke as well. I use a super light touch and tend to scrape around the perimeter, moving unsmoked tobacco into the center, than just a gentle tap down. I suspect that Jack Knife plug might be a little tricky as well. Try some ribbon cut of your choice and see how that smokes.

Thanks Guys,

I did try dumping some ash out of the bowl this morning and that really helped. I am going to work on my packing as well.

I appreciate your help.
