Private Messages....PM's...Please Read

It's come to my attention that a very few folks are using PMs to importune* others for pipes, tobacco, any thing at all. DO NOT!

* bother/beg/annoy/waste time

Please do not do this! And if you've read this, could you give a sign (like, hate, etc.; any) so I know it's reached the right people?

I have, in past, messaged an occasional member saying that if they ever want to sell a particular pipe they posted to keep me in mind. I assume this is ok if done with discretion and not repeated for the same pipe or person. If not, let me know and I won't do it again.

Members have been extravagantly generous on here, but in these instances, no one has requested their generosity. The the recipients have thanked them in threads, and that may have led others to think that all they needed to do is ask. Personally, I've avoided naming people who have sent me samples and pipes (mostly) to avoid just this misunderstanding. No panhandling on Forums.

I have on a few occasions, when asked to identify or evaluate a rare vintage British pipe through a PM, asked for pictures to add to my archive.

Everything is seen by the NSA (National Savinelli Administration), but other than that, pretty private.

I suspect that members reported this activity, so the Mods are doing their job by dealing with it.

BTW, privacy and the Internet are mutually exclusive concepts.

They are very private. I cannot see any PMs except what is sent to me or I write.

Mods and Admins CANNOT access anyone's private messages. If someone gets a PM they are disturbed about they can screen capture it and send that to us, of course.

Thank you , Kevin. ThePM feature helps us to “temper“ our reactions to perhaps, controversial issues on the site, without reverting to commentary that would compromise the principles of the owners.
