PA gets a fair bit of 'stick' being a monochrome, uninteresting blend. I was sitting outside looking at the stars and Mt. Stuart and enjoying some PA in my Peterson's Sherlock Holmes number.
I for one, am grateful to such a consistent & enjoyable blend.
I've had a crack at top blends, for example Penzance, and have to say I don't get what people see in it. The lot I had was a gift, and had to 'gift' it on to someone else.
I'm glad I've never invested the time and effort in endeavouring to buy some. Apparently, it requires the skill of an experienced safe-cracker to be able to buy it when it becomes available.
So, thank you to the crew who make it, and being so diligent to keep it such a great smoke!

Prince Albert was the only tobacco my great grandfather smoked and it was the first non aromatic I smoked on a regular basis 54 yrs ago. I agree with you about Penzance. I smoked two bowls from a tin I bought many years ago and after those two bowls I tossed it in the trash. That blend turned me away from English blends.

I like it. I like more expensive/complicated/exotic tobacco too. But sometimes you just need a smoke that won’t require any contemplation or direct attention and PA scratches that itch nicely. I think it’s especially nice in the morning/as first smoke of the day. Plus my grandpa and great uncle smoked it, so I’ve got to maintain tradition.

I started mining ⛏ for Penzance. It took me a yr or so to figure things out. You’re right that Penzance is really nothing special imho. What was a benefit to chasing Penzance was it opened me up to the ? of both Dunbar & Dorchester. Not to mention Germain’s RDF, Hampton Flake & Brown Flake.
Glad you’re enjoying your monochromatic blend. I enjoy quite a few that are simple & deliciously “boring”. ️

I've smoked through a few pouches of Prince Albert. It's a consistent, mild, enjoyable blend. I had a friend who smoked nothing but PA. I think I don't smoke more of it is because the cocoa flavoring got a little monotonous, but I can see how that would be a friendly flavor to many. I like SWR, SWRA, Granger, and even Velvet now and then.

I never pass up a chance to have coffee with royalty, so PA is a permanent fixture in my tobacco cellar.

You know, the weird thing about the bowl of the pipe after I'd finished the Penzance, it smelt great. But I couldn't do it again. Plus Mike sent me some Dorchester also. I really like that.

I know a chap in London who started smoking Gold Block in 1967...and is still smoking it today. Plus, he has never smoked any other kind of tobacco. "That" is consistent!

Yes, I appreciate how 'taste' is a very individual thing. And I notice how my blends will often taste quite different at various times.

Someone said that they always smoked their PA in a cob. I do that now, also. My Peterson 315 XL doesn't give nearly the same kind of 'quality' smoke that I thought it might, and that the cob does deliver.
So, I was glad for the heads-up with that cob/PA advice!

Thanks for that. Sounds very interesting. But I see 4noggins doesn't have it; and no-one else ships to Oz with anything like a sensible price. The guys at Smokingpipes quoted me $145 for twelve ounces. That is sent directly to Customs, and they immediately destroy it...go figure!

I really enjoy burleys in a cob - that is usually the way I start my day. I never smoked a lot of Prince Al, but always enjoyed it.
