flintlockjohn, even at one bowl a day you will be smoking 3.21 pounds per year. An inexpensive bulk today is what 30 a pound, 5 years from now it could easily be 90.00 and ten years a lot higher. Plus you need to consider how many blends will be discontinued when sales of pipe tobacco plummets by 30 percent or more. That is one of the biggest concerns I have is how many of my favorites will be discontinued.

I don't want to create any problems. I know the FDA is about to lower the hammer on the Tobacalypse (nice turn of phrase,Spartan). But if anyone has read about a specific date, time, period, etc., could you point me in the right direction.
I also realize by virtue of simply purchasing tobacco that prices continue to go up and up. And I think that I read here someone say that 2014 or 2015 is D-Day for us.
I would just like to read the fine print on all that. So, not to be too bothersome, could somebody just say, "go here."
Thanks.

Trying to calculate the amount you will smoke in the future, especially long term is I guess fun. But serves no practical purpose, you may not be smoking in five years, you may be smoking more as you get older, you may find alternatives or even see it as a profitable investment and choose to cash in. The main thing is stock up there’s no doubt it will pay off no matter what course your life takes you. Remember pipes will always be around and become even more outstanding, affordable and collectable (un-smoked), but buying tobacco to put in them will cost you a huge amount more.

flintlockjohn, I used the 4 gram per bowl calculation to come to my number. It is an average that as you say can be used as a guideline. No one knows exactly what their consumption will be down the road so I try to err on the side of you can never have too much. lol

All I know is I am trying my best on a limited budget to get more. If not may move to Canada to hang out with Peck or go hang out with Cigrmaster in Florida.

The weather in Florida is much nicer this time of year.

I have trouble personally, with this. My 'hobbies' change at a moment's notice, without notice.
I've smoked cigars for over 35 years, and have quit cold turkey for pipes. yes I know that you can sell your cellar, but who wants the trouble?
I am also doing the buy one, store one position. If I could find the absolute tobaccos I love, than I suppose I can stock. But since I'm still trying new ones all the time, I have to wait and see.
If I knew that I would stay with pipes, than I would order tins and tins. The price of tins is so small compared to good cigars, that this is truly a good investment.
Ah, my whimsey is my downfall.
