Thanks to a recent flurry of purchases from 4noggins and SP, I just hit 160 lbs of tobacco in the cellar. Not easy to do for a guy north of the border who has to pay shipping.
At my current pace of consumption (about 5lbs per year), I will be good for the next 32 years. That takes me to age 75.
My plan is another 40 or so lbs of mostly VA and VAPER blends and then I should be good. Still, I may go a bit higher just as a buffer. God, I hope I can stop buying. LOL.
Here is my current inventory: http://tobaccocellar.com/peckinpahhombre

You put me to shame, my good man. I have about 40lbs. and go through a pound a month. I'd better get a second job so I can catch up. LOL. But seriously, a good cellar is like money in the bank. Sometimes in the dead of night I'll creep down there and stare at my rows of golden tins. Like money in the bank. As Greg Pease likes to say, It'll never get cheaper than it is today.

I agree Kashmir. It will be nice to be done and in the "safe zone". Then I will be able to start concentrating on pipes.

I have noticed that prices keep going up as well. FVF is out for awhile, and when it's finally in, the price is up 50 cents or so. Same with ODF.

+1 to that. College budgets are no place to start up something that expensive either...

Totally awesome, hope you have that AK in jars, as with all the rolled tin containers if you are looking at 20-30 years. You have the perfect spread for a VA man, color me jealous. But you’re right on the money for doing it.

Yeah, the trick is to do it piecemeal, and before you know it why you've got a cellar! My favorite C&D bulk blends are around $38 a pound, which packs into two quart jars. Been doing bulk these days. Nothing like a brick pound of pressed Pirate Kake.

And the verdict is two pounds :crying:

You don't need to tell me, homeatsea. Though, I am going to start buying more in bulk rather than mostly tins like I've been doing. I can live with cobs in half of my rotation too. Rothnh is right, I can't afford NOT to stock up.

Yeah I've been purchasing about $40-$50 worth of tins each month since I set out. My newest pipe set me back about a month and a half's worth of tobacco money though. Looking into buying bulk on my next few purchases just to save some on funds. It's definitely an art, one which I think Peckin's got quite the knack for.

I'm at the stage of trying to decide what I would like to begin cellaring. So far the list is very short. Takes a while of experimenting with blends to know enough to make an informed decision.

@flintlockjohn... What is your personal take on PS Balkan Supreme? I am seriously starting to hoard the stuff, just bought a pound an hour ago actually.

Not to hijack, lumberjakpipester, but since you asked, to me, Stokkebye Balkan Supreme is the bulk version of Balkan Sasieni. I have both and smoked them side by side and honestly cannot taste the difference, neither do they look different.

As for cellaring, well, who knows what will happen tomorrow, or in the next 5 minutes for that matter. I've always stocked up on stuff "while I had the money to do it" and this is no different. When I was smoking nails I was spending way more.

That being said, in two years of piping I've managed to acquire 14 Petersons, 2 Preben Holms and a Becker, alongside approx 6 kg / 14 lbs of baccy in 50g tins, 250g and 500g boxes, and glass jars, using my part-time bookkeeping gig earnings and a bit from horse trading on eBay. I don't smoke as much as some here, a tin usually lasts me a week or so ..... therefore what I have on hand, if I just stopped buying, should last about 3 years.

Honestly, in a TEOTWAWKI / SHTF situation, having enough tobacco would probably be one of the last things on my mind .....

Well, if it's the end of the world, I know that I'll be going to heaven, because all lawyers go to heaven, but I have no idea what the tobacco selection will be like there, so I want to be prepared.
I may be completely off base here. St Peter may have 8 oz bags of Stonehaven coming out of his arse, for all I know. But I want to be prepared.

:worship: I just ordered another 3 with the 4Noggins discount. I think I am only sitting at about 12 lbs. Which I suppose aint too bad for a guy whose pipe smoking is measured in weeks, not years. I'll keep going and collect as I can.

hey peckinpahhombre - do you have a pic? I'd love to see what 160 lbs of baccy looks like.
