We live in an age when we have literally thousands of tobacco blends to choose from, many are quite similar. A while ago I decided to lessen my supply of tobaccos to just the top 10 usual blends with an occasional sampler to keep up with other chooses. I figured this would not be a major problem since I smoke basically the same tobaccos every week with a few new ones included. This morning I finished the last of Eileen's Dream. I enjoy Eileen's Dream, but do I want to reorder it or not? Do I stick to my guns and try to shorten my supply of tobaccos, I have enough for several life times, or do I reorder this very nice blend? We are truly blessed to have such a wide assortment to choose that it comes to limiting our chooses or building an extra room to the house. I think I will go a while and see if I miss Eileen's Dream. My guess is that I will be satisfied with eliminating other excess blends that I already have and enjoying my usual selection. How do my fellow forum members decide when they are ordering?

When I find two or more of my own personal desires conflicting, and I cannot simply choose one over the other, I find establishing a limiting criteria helps. For instance, you can tell yourself, "I'm only going to order $XXX of tobacco every XX months, until I have dwindled my cellar to XX tins". That way when "XX months" arrives and its time, you can order more of Eileen's Dream, or not, and you are still achieving your somewhat conflicting goal of reducing your stash.

Personally, I also keep ordering more than I smoke... your post makes me realize I may find myself in the same place soon and I might want to think about it now rather than later. Or maybe not... decisions, decisions, haha.

I always struggle with going wide vs going deep, be it on a particular blend or a genre. Going deep in a singular blend or style also has the benefit of cellaring. I’ve currently been going deep on straight red VA and still enjoying the nuances between each I’ve tried. If I find something I enjoy that seems like it might have good cellaring potential I might order a few more tins. I’ve also been stupid about not smoking stuff I like now because I want to age it for later. I could just order more and smoke that while I wait, but I’m like “no, better wait on that tin or two” which is admittedly kind of silly. If I find that I keep reordering single tins of something and going through it fast, then I’ll start ordering a few at a time. Then a few turns into 5+. The things I stash a pound or more of are usually only in bulk so I can throw it in a big jar and wait. While I wait on stuff I know I like to mature I sample around and buy wide, making orders of around10 different 2oz tins, usually. Lots are so-so, but I’ve found a lot of stuff I enjoy this way. It’s a constant struggle though. It seems I don’t have enough and have too much tobacco at the same time.
