Massive edit to shorten title and be more click-bait like. Original:

"I Should Think So Too: Pre-School Withdraws Book Showing Man In Leather Fetish Gear."

What weirdness folks wish to get involved in behind closed doors is their own business, but children of pre-school age do not need to know about their strange habits, just let them be children for goodness sake.

Apparently the book is marked as being suitable for 4 year olds and above .

Where on earth did good standards go?

Regards,

Jay.

There’s been a societal shift that requires the language to be updated: henceforth the correct terms shall be “uncommon sense” and “uncommon courtesy” to better reflect the state of general occurrence.

You will encounter both far less frequently than in the past but they will be more appreciated when you do.

When you read the article, it sounds like a very mild instance. Someone screening books for Genesis wanted a joke, so he/she/they snickered while letting this book pass with a 4 year old rating. Or, someone at the company just passed all of the books without looking at them at all. The school relied on the book company's pre-screening. A parent complained, and the school yanked the book from the library without a squabble, and no one at Genesis was willing to talk to the media. It doesn't sound very nefarious to me. Sounds like someone at Genesis lost their job.

The line is not so difficult. Children, by their very nature, are not designed to be thrown into or exposed to a curriculum that is sexualized. They lack the experience as well as the cognitive capabilities to understand or comprehend sexual nuisance let alone form their own opinion on it. That is why parents are the first line of protection. This isn't to suggest that children don't have a curiosity that will explore aspects of sexuality, but children count on adults to provide a firm sense of concrete guidance so that they can have a less chaotic understanding of the world around them. Censorship of people can be and is offensive. Censorship of ideas can be and is offensive. But their is a reason we don't explore the ideas of political ideologies and and economic schemes in pre-school and first start with ideas such as treating others nicely and thinking about how our actions might make someone else feel. To do differently is to confuse political indoctrination with learning to read, write, be competent in mathematics, and to be a disciplined individual who tries not to harm others while making sure one gets what they need in the process.

Is this the first book to be banned in a school in GB? We're just emptying our school libraries here in the US. It's all for the better anyway, the libraries were just taking up valuable space that could be used for active shooter drills... Some schools are just replacing the libraries with a staff armory.

Children should be left out of those pushing these type of things to achieve their agenda. Personally, these bastards should be taken out and shot with dull spoons until they learn their lesson. Or stoned, since they believe everything is better than what we have in US.

If you guys will read the article (UP THERE), you'll see that no one was pushing an agenda. A book slipped through vetting, or someone let it slip through as a joke. But no one from parents, to the school, to even the company were defending this book.

At this point the proximate case is irrelevant. The issue being discussed is real and close to endemic in the States

Besides what social media and political news says, it’s really blown out of proportion. Both sides of the coin are being fed BS to promote their agendas. Meanwhile, I don’t see anything like this in real life.
There have always been gay people. There have been trans people for decades. Hell, the 80’s heavy metal scene was based on trans and leather boys. It’s not new, just vastly crammed down our necks by politicians want to rile up their bases.

I use a simple test to tell what is real from the fake news on both sides. I just go outside and look around. Ha ha.

I read six pages of the book at www.harrywoodgate.com

The BBC article cropped the leather fetish image to make it seem larger, more shocking. In the book the image is actually quite small.

I have a four year old grandson in preschool. He can't read, so he wouldn't have a clue what the book is about or what the leather fetish outfit represents. I would guess my four year old grandson would think it's some sort of costume.

I don't think the topic of PRIDE, LGBTQ, Transgender is an appropriate topic in a preschool. It's up to the parents to decide when these topics are appropriate for their children, not the preschool.

If I read this book to my grandson and he questioned the leather outfit, my answer would be "that's Leatherman, he's a superhero". 😉

The polarization of school curriculum to some extent has always been problematic. Today, it is wildly out of control.

It isn't a slippery slope. That function of math occurred many decades ago. Today, it's a wormhole to some of the most strangest types of intellectual ignorance imaginable.

I had a college student, yesterday, inform me that my wearing a cross in public in a restaurant was a micro-aggression and an act of violence toward people of either other or no faith. They were rather aggressive about it. I checked in later with another college student I knew and they agreed.

I give up.

Not gonna lie, the fact somebody allowed a bunch of Pre-Schoolers access to the literary equivalent of The Blue Oyster Bar really made me laugh.

I can see why parents might have had a problem with the book.

When I was their age I read books about "Kevin The Kitten". They were pretty good for kids books and I loved reading about Kevin and his various adventures. I don't think he wore any assless leather chaps, tho.

Even the name of the book made me laugh. "Grandad's Pride" Sounds like a codger blend👍
